Do not hesitate to ride the Tonbori River Cruise . This s just located near the Dombori Eating Street. A good way to end a splendid dinner. Ride is about 20 minutes. You have to line up the wooden boardwalk under the big Buddha yellow signboard overhead. Ride last about 20 minutes, a guide will talk about the different bridges the tour boat will, pass through, if you are lucky you can land up with a guide who can speak English. Talkies or no allies, the neon lit Tonbori river is a sight to behold in the evening, you really get to feel you are in a foreign land, with all those interesting signboards overhead. Nice way to cap a busy day, the ride is relaxing yet exhilarating. Do give it a try. I have ride lots of river cruises in many major cities of the world, t ranked this as one of the most memorable.
Brought my children for the cruise as they were looking for something to do. The whole trip was conducted in Japanese. It was abit boring for us adults but the children enjoyed it. As we purchased the Amazing Card for that day,the cruise was free for us. Not recommended to go in the day time as it is very hot and there is nothing much to see. I believe it will be a better view at night with all the neon lights switch on.
The main issues seems to be the short duration of the boat ride, lasting just 20 minutes and being narrated almost entirely in Japanese.
The Dotonbori bank isn't the most extensive river, but I feel the boat ride really doesn't do it the justice it deserves. If you were to try the cruise I would suggest going at night, in good weather. Although there are covered cruisers in the event of adverse weather. At night the buildings of the Dotonbori are lit up like a Christmas tree and will add to your experience. None speakers of Japanese May feel left out of the experience by a lack of English translation, with exception to the safety announcements.
Better cruises to be had but not inherently expensive
My wife and I took the river cruise on a cold evening in late March 2014. The river cruise departs every half hour and takes around 20 minutes, and it was being conducted in Japanese. The ticket counter is right in front of Don Quijote, and price per ticket is JPY700.
The guide is very enthusiastic. Unfortunately, we do not understand Japanese, hence we were not able to appreciate the history at all. Nevertheless. it is a relaxing way of seeing the buildings and night lights along Tombori river.
This river cruise, we think, was a little expensive for where the river cruise cruises. The cruise is not very long and does not go a long distance down the river. It was interesting and fun. The guide tour lady only spoke in Japanese, so therefore we could not understand a word that she says, because we only speak English. But all in all. it did not really matter the she only spoke Japanese.
It is a good choice to take this short cruise to enjoy the night view along Dotonbori River after the tired shopping trip. The tour guide is very energetic to introduce the bridges during the course. I couldn't understand what he is talking, but I can feel that Osaka people are friendly and humorous. Will recommend to take the cruise only during night time. The whole journey takes about 20 mins, if I remember correctly. Free admission under Osaka Unlimited Pass.
