Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Eulogy for Maria Connie Rego Ruth Beenken At a quiet beach, on Zeglinski Avenue, there lived a beautiful princess, whose name was Maria, and she was much loved by her husband, Leonard. From the time they met, to the time she died, Leonard loved his sweet, kind, pretty, princess, and loved the beautiful and smart Connie. Some called her Maria, and some called her Connie, but to me, she was always Maria. Maria, had come to Canada, after Leonard brought her here to be his wife. For all of these years, they were a loving couple, having one child, Sandy and also a beautiful grand child Angelique. I got to know Maria by accident. Leonard helped me at my cottage one day, and before long, Maria became my friend. She was my friend when I had no friends. She was someone I could talk to, and someone who would listen and give me her honest opinion. Maria helped me to get my cottage in shape by giving me ideas, but she also encouraged me to get rid of things that she did not like. She was a decorator, a seamstress, a true artist with her sewing and crocheting creations, and a beautiful cook. She also taught me to crochet, and although I will never be able to crochet like her, it made me feel happy and satisfied that I learned it. Her crocheting was a work of art, and her beautiful pieces that she made for the poor, were fit for kings or princes; they were so beautiful. Maria’s meals were wonderful. She was an amazing baker, and cook, and I loved eating the various Portugese recipes she made. More than anything, she was a hospitable person who cared about me, and loved me. The thing I loved the most about Maria, was that she gave me unconditional love. Even before I had connected again with my sisters, Maria was on my side, and she helped me re-connect with my family. She was a true friend, and a great person. I will miss my friendship with Maria very much. She was like a mother or a sister to me, in how she tried to understand and care about what was going on in my life. For such a short time she was with us, and I wish she could still be here, for us to visit her, and to share those wonderful laughs, to watch TV together and to have a snack or meal together. Maria had a huge heart, and she shared her goodness with all who came in contact with her. Maria, we will really miss you. God bless you in heaven, for being so good to me on earth.
