When i came to Walter Johnson i was new to the school to the culture and to everything but i felt so welcome. I made so many friends and memories that i will never forget and Walter Johnson was a big part of my American experience. Activities such as football games, homecoming danses, prom, clubs and more are going to forever stay in my heart. I also met wonderful teachers who were patient with me still learning the language and trying to fit in. They guided me and helped me whenever i needed and i am so thankful to them. It provided me the best highschool years i could have asked for but also it provided me with helpful maps for my college journey.
I am an immigrant who attends Walter Johnson High School. and in my opinion it is the best school in Montgomery County, maybe even in Maryland. As an ESOL student, I feel this school provides the best teachers for its students. Moreover, I once read a survey that the test scores of Walter Johnson's ESOL students were ranked first in Montgomery County. especially the counselors who really told me everything I had to do because without them I wouldn't even know what to do in this new country. The worst experience was that there were only a few naughty students doing silly things there, but the school quickly took action against these students. For future changes, what I want is that schools can provide more insight to immigrant students who may not understand how the curriculum in America works.
I have spent three years at Walter Johnson, and in my time have had the freedom to partake in many activities such as athletics, clubs, and social events. The administration is very supportive of student initiatives, as represented by several student-led walkouts during my time at school. There are a wide range of courses offered and new ones are implemented each year. One issue the school sometimes struggles with is a sense of a school wide identity, which is largely due to the large size of the student body at around three thousand.
