Walker Season 4 First Look: Cordell Goes From Birthday Celebration to Somber Contemplation (Exclusive)
Walker will be kicking off its fourth season this spring with a birthday celebration for its main character.
As seen in TVLine’s exclusive photos from the premiere episode (airing Wednesday, April 3 at 8/7c on The CW), Cordell’s family and friends have gathered to mark the Texas Ranger’s big day, including his maybe-girlfriend Geri. (Here’s hoping that bodes well for the pair finally giving a relationship a real try next season!) The celebratory meal looks to be a lively affair, with some potentially heated body language (pointed fingers, raised hands, etc.).
Last we saw in the Season 3 finale, Cordell and Geri had shared a kiss, which was interrupted by a call informing Cordell that a serial killer from his past known as the Jackal may have killed again. Perhaps that danger is on Cordell’s mind in the far more somber and contemplative first-look photo above. Or maybe he got wind of the trouble Stella landed in when a struggle with a break-in offender led to him getting accidentally shot by his own gun… and then his body being MIA when Stella returned to the scene with Liam.
Looking ahead at next season, star/executive producer Jared Padalecki told TVLine during a post-mortem Q&A that the Jackal cold case being reopened is “very exciting” to him.
“We’ve seen Captain James be a stalwart for the whole Ranger organization and for his friend Cordell. So I think it’s nice that, hopefully next season, I’ll get to return the favor and be there for him when he’s kind of having to revisit some of his past trauma,” Padalecki shared.
The actor was also “very, very excited about the Cordell/Geri storyline and seeing where they go,” Padalecki said. “They kind of gave it a preliminary shot, and that didn’t stick. But now that their lives are different and that they’ve had some time to really think about it and digest it, I think they could make a good tag-team for Stella and Auggie.”
Speaking of Auggie, is he missing from the birthday party or just hidden behind someone?
Walker was one of just four original series renewed by The CW’s new regime, with the others being Superman & Lois, All American and All American: Homecoming. The prequel spinoff Walker Independence was not as lucky and was cancelled last May after just one season.

Hopefully we have a happier Cordell this season. Last season he was so broody all the time it grew tiresome by the end.
Jared Padalecki has consistently portrayed strong inspirational characters for over 20 years & continues to do so as Walker. He’s a brilliant story teller and found his niche in producing in addition to acting. He knows talent when he sees it and knows how to create a working environment that everyone else wishes they could be a part of. Walker is tv at it’s best and I hope it continues for seasons to come.
Really wanted to love this, but there’s something really odd with Jared’s acting as Walker.
Wonder if it’s a choice for the part or maybe a real mannerism of his?
He deserves every success though.
I’d been thinking the same thing. Jared’s line delivery has become almost irritating. He speaks one sentence but he pauses 4-5 times while delivering it. “I know…Captain but…can’t we just….take a second and…..try figure it out?” Another character says their line cleanly, and Jared is back to his staccato delivery. Lol. Once I noticed it, it was so annoying I was begging him aloud to please just SAY THE LINE. lol. (Wasn’t nearly as bad in Supernatural.)
I feel the same way. Somewhere between Sam Winchester and Cordell Walker’s continued trauma that strange staccato line delivery showed up. It’s been bothering me since he started doing it.

I’m still hoping for either a Guest Starring role or a Cameo from Chuck Norris, the Original Walker Texas Ranger, on this Walker as a sign of respect from Jared Padalecki to his Professional and Franchise Elder.
I know that David Carradine wasn’t able to be in the Kung-Fu Remake Series but come on Mr. Padalecki, show due respect and homage to your Predecessor, please!
This season is going to be better than last! Cannot wait for S4 storyline plus the many character developments even futher this season especially more interaction between Violet Brinson and Keegan Allen again plus the family drama between Keeley Culley/Mitch Pileggi/Jared Padalecki regarding Army storyline. Glad you are back. Every time I get into a show they cancel it. Love the story line.
Hopefully more action & less kid stuff this year
Cordell and Geri need to marry and start a family. Stella and Auggie would then be called on to babysit which would naturally be a bad idea considering they never agree on anything. They’d probably get in a big argument and ignore the baby who would crawl out the door and be adopted by a cow.
So Ready for Walker to return. I may have to DVR as I will be driving back to PA from home state of Texas
