- greglinmonLas Cruces, NM784 contributionsOutstanding beauty, great fishing, super nice people, everything is so nice. Early June, weather is great. Fishing has been good, catching everything. Walleye, crappie, rock bass, northern, perch. Even a couple small mouth bass. Staying on the lake outside Walker. The surroundings are gorgeous. Mosquitos are starting to be out and about . I was impressed by our guide the first day. Used guide two days to learn lake then five days solo.Written June 2, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TravelingBum10United States2,751 contributionsWe went on a Saturday. This place was jamming. It was packed with people! They had a bluegrass band playing outdoors. We grabbed a couple of beers, $6 each and sat outside listening to the music. It was pretty fun and the beer was tasty.Written August 8, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- LarryPlymouth, MN49 contributionsIt was so much fun to visit with the locals and shop locally. There was a good selection of artists and food/vegetable vendors. There is something for everyone.Written July 16, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- ed mMinneapolis, MN99 contributionsStopped by here for an evening walk and was super delighted by this little gem. This is a multi-use area, which is set up for skiing and hiking. There's a sliding hill that seems like it would be super awesome in the winter, and about 5 miles of winding, wide trails that cut through the beautiful aspens.
When I went through, there was not another soul to be found, so I had the whole park to myself. Mind the hills! There are a LOT!Written October 2, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It's a very smooth ride with only 2% grade changes since this is a converted railroad track.
While the whole trail is paved, there are a few bumps here and there from root damage over time. However, I would say the vast majority is really well done. Half the ride runs through deep forest while the other half follow along the highway. Trees separate you from the cars, but you can still hear the traffic.
My favorite part of riding this trail are the birds. Every 50-100 feet there was a signing warbler, vireo, thrush or grosbeak. After several hours of listening, I was able to memorize songs from Blackburnian, Ovenbird, Black-and-white and Yellow Warbler.
Rest stops are non-existent on the trail. Make use of the tiny towns (Akeley, Nevis and Dorset). Nevis has a rest stop right on the trail with the world's largest Tiger Muskee.
Heartland Trail could be paired with the Paul Bunyan Trail for a three day spoke ride. Find housing in Walker. Each day explore a different direction on the trails.Written June 30, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There were accessible docks and a beautiful lighthouse on a mini peninsula.Written July 25, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - G BSaint Paul, MN368 contributionsThis is not a large casino but there’s enough selection of gambling options to satisfy guests. The parking lot is large and can accommodate a lot of vehicles, including campers and boat trailers.
As with most casinos, smoking is allowed. I didn’t observe a non-smoking casino section. It’s an easy and fast process to join their players club. The casino and adjacent hotel is located near the town of Walker, which is only a 5 minute drive away.Written June 23, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I was sitting in a nearby brewery looking for things to do and this popped up. It was right down the street. What a cool sculpture display outside. Each sculpture is a person from a different time era. I like this.Written June 30, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - kay kMetro Minneapolis-Saint Paul, MN1,042 contributionsPeculiar Painter is a gallery/art supply/gift store all rolled into one great shop. Beautiful original art work, pottery and jewelry plus more. The owner is a wonderful artist and an incredibly friendly merchant. I always find something special here. It's located one block off the main drag., by the big parking lot and the American legion. It's well worth seeking out!Written June 18, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- turtlegirl2014Gainesville, FL117 contributionsWe always enjoy shopping Reeds when visiting Walker. This year, we saw that they had opened a Clearance center across the street so we visited that store as well. We were appalled. It was a dirty mess, impossible to shop. Just because things are offered at a bargain, does not mean the items cannot be hung properly, arranged by size and made shopable . The shoe room was just as bad. Gender and Sizes all mixed up together. Boxes all over the place, tissue littering the floor. We saw one employee by the entrance door. I will just say, if you have time to lean, you have time to clean. Think I’ll pass on this shop. Reeds, we know you can do better.Written August 27, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- janbV4648EVMissouri186 contributionsWell kept fairways, challenging course, some deep sand traps, greens very fast...many times the ball would not stick. First hole you hit from an overlook. Fun time on this beautiful course in the pines.Written September 18, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jennifer SMinnesota134 contributionsChristmas Point is my absolute favorite store in Walker. There is truly something for everyone here. I love the various food items and most recently tried the lemon herb aioli *YUM!!*. I would not be able to work at this store because I would have no income - it would all go back to the store. Super cute farm-like, rustic decor items. Also sassy items, items that make you giggle, and items that smell SO. GOOD. My favorite smelly items are the wax melts. There is also an upscale boutique attached to the "general store" area. I like to walk through and look for deals. I found the sweetest pair of little earrings that were on clearance! They are my favorite earrings. Anyway, if you like to stroll and look at things, this is the place for you!Written October 23, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
