Who knew the biggest national monument outside of DC is located in Vincennes IN!? We stumbled on this place heading home after the total eclipse. Very cool, very well done.

I only had an hour to see this, but I could have spent all day. I have been to several military museums, but this one had several items that I have never seen in other museums. This does have a $7 admission cost, but it is well worth it.

Amazing visit! Built as a Philadelphia-class mansion on the frontier to encourage others, it was both a mansion and a fortress. I have visited hundreds of museums and a dozens of presidential homes and none surpasses the encyclopedic tour guide. She was phenomenal in both content and enthusiasm. The first question I ask about an historic home is what percent is it original. Grouseland is nearly entirely original. In many presidential homes, period furniture is displayed. Here, are numerous items from, at least, the Harrison family. Tecumseh, Little Turtle, Arron Burr and many other guests of fame visited the home. Correspondence with signatures from a number of America’s greatest are on display. The Grouseland Rifle, the State Rifle of Indiana, is also on display there. There is a musket ball hole in a shutter, thought to have been fired by a Native American, just missing Harrison holding a grand-baby who would become the 23rd President. That shot could have changed the trajectory of American history. Grouseland is an American treasure.

This museum is filled with memorabilia from the life & career of Red. The exhibits do a great job of telling the story of both his professional & personal life. Admission is $7 per person & it is well worth it to visit.

Beautiful church. They do hold evening services there but was just open in the morning when we was there. Great quick stop.

We go here often to hike the many interesting trails. BUT some of them are NO LONGER being maintained. The trails on the south-east side of the main road are still good and even have (FINALLY) a bridge. The trails south-west toward the river and north-east have NO means to cross the creeks and even have fallen trees blocking the paths. We are hoping for improvements or it will be necessary to find another location to hike. The park does offer much else: camping, cabins, playgrounds, nature center (in poor condition) and more. But we hike and our visitors also hike. After a rain, the problem trails are in an even more unusable condition. Don't understand why these minor maintenance functions are being ignored as the cost to repair is minor?!

Very quiet area--perfectly peaceful for reflection, enjoying nature, snd viewing the Wabash River. It is easy to imagine Tecumseh arriving with a multitude of canoes and warriors to meet with Territorial Governor William Henry Harrison prior to the Battle of Tippecanoe. Thoughts travel to the garrison of soldiers who once were here to protect Vincennes. The area is well cared for, and it appears the short stockade walls were recently added to mark the walls of the old fort. EXCELLENT signage providing detailed information as you wall the perimeter.

Newly renovated pool with water slides and monkey bar ropes, lots of fun for kids! It's also located in a nice little park called Greg Park, which has benches, a playground, and the local football field. A nice picnic area.

The riverwalk is a beautiful place, especially to take pictures, and it's also where the food trucks are on Monday nights in warm weather. It's free and leisurely, you can watch the boats.

My husband and I visited Vincennes to see the sights. We walked down Main Street and stopped in the Bible Bookstore. This is a beautiful, big bookstore with lots to see for purchase. We spoke with one of their workers (Angie), the owner (Chad) and the manager (Julie). They told us about Thursday Church so we attended last night. The church has a service on Sunday mornings as well, but provide this for people who can't or don't attend on Sunday mornings. My husband offered to play bass for the praise band and he was welcomed with open arms. This church has three ministries as well as houses the 5th grade for a local school. They also stream the service on the web, with the service running about 1.5 hours. There is a connecting door leading into The Faith Store, one of the ministries the church owns to benefit those in need. The items for sale are made by people in third world countries who have been freed from the sex industry and other such horrible places, learn how to craft beautiful goods, and the profits from the sales at The Faith Store goes right back into helping others. The church also has a children's ministry and a wonderful, large youth group. Finally, a bus and a limo are provided to transport people to and from church.

Affordable and art don't generally go hand and hand here, but this was great. Trends towards representational, and there's a lot of the kind of charming things that go well in a family home.

This is next to the Old Chicago theatre that is now a pizza and taproom. It is easy to miss. Check when they have open houses. Vincennes has first Fridays for art in the evenings.

Make sure to stop nearby and walk over to read the history plaque carved into the stone on the west side of the bridge.
