- Cherie MNew York City, NY9 contributionsProbably the most beautiful piazza in all of Italy. Surrounded by the Sforsca Castle. Exactly in 1492 as reported by the plaque placed under the access arch.
With its climbing bodies it reaches 56 meters in height
The belfry, inaccessible to the public, houses the seventeenth-century bell, slightly silenced (a slice of the bell was removed) in the nineteenth century because its original sound was too loud and did not let the inhabitants sleep since it rang and still does every half hourWritten December 29, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. A whole session, indoors and outdoors, is devoted to the subject. The old water mill, a small jewel in the countryside, hosts a big collection of wooden models of machines designed by Leonardo with exhaustive explanations and copies of the original designs. Worth a visit.Written January 23, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- luirobGeneva, Switzerland177 contributionsnice to walk in Leonardo and the Sforza's places but the castle itself does not have much to see inside (except a Leonardo museum) but the fantastic Strada Coperta (the covered entrance to the castle it's worth the visit...and it is free.Written October 16, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Alessandro FMilan, Italy26,394 contributionsSuperb cathedral with a semi-circular Baroque façade which dominates the beautiful town square.
Construction began in 1532, at the behest of Francesco Secondo Sforza.
Architect Antonio da Lonate
Built on a pre-existing church founded in turn on a previous church from 932.
The construction lasted several years because the munificence of Sforza failed, the works continued thanks to private citizens.
Immense interior with three naves with a very large central one with a finely decorated barrel vault.
Central dome also frescoed.
Double gilded wooden pulpit
Quadrangular apse with tabernacle altar.
The major artistic treasures are found in the side chapels.
The first on the right, chapel of the crucifix, with a painting by Cesare Magnus from 1532
Third chapel on the right, of Saints James and Philip, canvas by Vitale Sala from 1840.
Fourth chapel, the most sumptuous, of San Carlo Borromeo, built in 1581 by the Bishop Mons Cassle. Polychrome marble altar, on the walls we can admire the Madonna with Child by Macrino d'Alba from 1502, a large panel depicting Saint Thomas between Saint Agatha and Saint Helena by Bernardino Ferrari from 1510, a large mosaic representing the apparition of the Sacred Heart, recently composed.
On the opposite wall a canvas by an unknown author dated 1590 then the triptych also by an unknown author, dated to the beginning of the sixteenth century, a large mosaic depicting the crucifixion of the same Vatican school that made the other mosaic.
In the opposite aisle, the fourth chapel dedicated to St. John the Baptist with a fine Baroque altar from 1753 and the canvas depicting the baptism of Jesus by Ferdinando Porta dated 1735.
Superb altar in the third chapel with polyptych from 1510, undoubtedly the most beautiful Renaissance work in Vigevano by Bernardino Ferrari.Written January 1, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Displayed historically from the beginnings, by geographical continents, types; interesting pieces were the pair of lotus shoes (Chinese shoes for bound feet); the Popes’ shoes (there is an important shoemaking industry in the area, so many were produced for the last 7 popes); Beatrice d’Este chopine; Shaquille O’Neal shoesize model and many others.

- Giuseppe SAntwerp, Belgium864 contributionsThis is an artificial creek on the river where if you are lucky, you can get a tour on the river or can just relax or take one of the trails where some inofrmation about local wildlife and flora are displayed. - Giuseppe SAntwerp, Belgium864 contributionsThe cathedral is well known for the "treasury" donated to it by Francesco II Sforza in 1534. These are kept and can be seen in the small museum inside the cathedral in Vigevano. Other items are Flemish tapestries and ivory, golden, silver items and old manuscripts.Written December 18, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
