Palace was beautiful. Spent more time walking around outside than we did inside. The views are incredible. Make sure to wear walking shoes. We booked directly through the Palace. I don’t think you need the “Skip the Line” pass. Seems like a waste to get that. They provide a self guided audio walking tour when booking through the Palace directly.

About a 25 min walk up to the top of the hill or you can take a trolly. You can pay an extra 5 Euro to go to the top of the Gloriette which was really nice. Benches at the top too so you can take in the view.

Getting to the Palace was really easy. Just take the underground. Definitely recommend if you have the time.

A city filled with art, beautiful architecture, excellent cuisine and classical sounds resonating throughout. It is also well centered to serve as a departure for visits in nearby Central Europe cities, Budapest, Prague, and so much more.

Our visit to the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna was a delightful journey through centuries of art, history, and culture that left us in awe of the masterpieces housed within its walls. From magnificent paintings to exquisite sculptures, every corner of this renowned museum offered a feast for the senses and a wealth of artistic inspiration for our family.

As we entered the grandiose halls of the museum, we were greeted by the breathtaking beauty of its architecture, adorned with intricate details and adorned with magnificent frescoes and gilded ceilings. The grandeur of the surroundings set the stage for an unforgettable cultural experience that would captivate our imaginations and ignite our curiosity.

Our exploration of the museum's vast collection began with the Egyptian and Near Eastern Antiquities, where we marveled at the ancient artifacts and treasures from civilizations long past. From intricately carved reliefs to majestic sarcophagi, each piece told a story of humanity's rich and diverse heritage, transporting us back in time to distant lands and civilizations.

Next, we ventured into the Picture Gallery, home to an extraordinary collection of European paintings spanning the Renaissance to the Baroque period. From the luminous works of Rembrandt and Vermeer to the sublime masterpieces of Rubens and Titian, each painting was a masterpiece of artistic expression that left us spellbound and inspired.

One of the highlights of our visit was the Kunstkammer Wien, a treasure trove of rare and precious objects that once belonged to the Habsburg dynasty. From exquisite sculptures and intricate clocks to dazzling jewels and ornate armor, the Kunstkammer offered a glimpse into the opulent world of the imperial court and its passion for collecting.

Throughout our journey, we were guided by knowledgeable museum staff who shared fascinating insights and stories about the artworks and their creators. Their passion for art and dedication to preserving cultural heritage added depth and richness to our experience, enhancing our appreciation for the masterpieces before us.

As we bid farewell to the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna, we left with hearts full of gratitude and minds enriched by the beauty and splendor of the artistic treasures we had encountered. Our visit was a testament to the enduring power of art to inspire, educate, and unite people of all ages and backgrounds, leaving an indelible mark on our hearts and minds for years to come.

We had previously visited the interior of this magnificent cathedral, which has certain areas that you can explore for free, but noticed an entry doorway around the side where you can take a small lift up, approximately 60 metres, to two viewing platforms that run around the side of the North Tower.

The North Tower is known as the Adler Tower and is smaller than the South Tower which can only be accessed by 343 steps, there being no lift. Construction on the North Tower began in 1450 and took approximately 130 years.

The view from the North Tower over Vienna is very extensive but, I understand, is not as good as that from the South Tower as the panorama on the North Tower is blocked by the multi-coloured mosaic tiled roof that replaced the original Gothic roof that was destroyed by fire at the end of WWII.

Cost of entry was EUR6-00 per person paid in cash at a counter at the entrance to the lift. The lift only held about six people plus the lift operator

Whilst there is protective wire around most of the two platforms, there is one reasonably narrow stairway which joins the two platforms and appears to go around the area that holds the bell, that may present issues to people with acrophobia.

Belvedere Palace complex was another beautiful museum that we enjoyed visiting. Smaller to Schonbrunn but elegant in every sphere of architecture, the building housed so much of paintings of historical value that were well conserved. Museum housed a large collection of sculpture and some rooms were decorated with soothing wall and ceiling paintings that could take the viewer to a fantasy world. The baroque garden occupying a vast area, was in large terraces, reaching the lower level at the beautiful water feature followed by the tiered water cascade. Garden sculptures of sphinx was magnificent.

if you are with children, it is a must visit place where several animals can be seen in a nearly natural environment. Take at least 3-4 hours for a complete tour.

Probably the best museum in Vienna: not only you can see amazing pieces ranging from Monet to Picasso, but the apartments that you can visit on the second floor are breathtaking! The Albertina can easily become a one stop museum for your holiday week in Vienna and you won't be missing out on anything!

We visited the Wiener Staatsoper the first day we arrived in Vienna. We had the chance to see a ballet performance. The building is a piece of art on its own. If you want to visit it, it's worthy to book a concert/ opera or ballet.

This fabulous library is in the State Hall which has a different, much smaller entrance, than that signposted "Osterreichische Nationalbibliotek" on the outside of the Hofburg Imperial Palace fronting Heldenplatz. Entry cost was EUR8-00 for seniors and EUR10-00 for adults. There were a number of stairs to be negotiated before gaining entry to the library which was on the first floor.

The State Hall was built between 1723 and 1726 on the orders of Emperor Charles VI. The State Hall today hosts over 200,000 books, many leatherbound, dating from 1501 to 1850. These are housed in a spectacularly ornate hall which is over 77 metres long, 14 metres wide and nearly 20 metres high. In the middle section of the Hall there is a large richly frescoed cupola under which sits a statue of Emperor Charles VI. The ceilings are also beautifully frescoed and there are masses of gilded woodwork.

The books are on two levels with beautifully carved wooden staircases between them and a wonderful curved balustrade surrounding the top level. There are also huge ladders at regular intervals to reach the books on the upper shelves on each level. There are also secret rooms, where the bookshelves open, and reading spaces.

Given that an information board in the Hall described it as "one of the world's most beautiful historical libraries", one seriously has to question why the Administrators would deem it necessary to put up masses of billboards on either side of the Hall showcasing the works of Yoichi Okamoto. The subject matter, photography, certainly didn't fit in with the surroundings, nor did the era and the ugly billboards obscured much of the ground level bookcases. The Hall was crowded and I only noticed a couple of people reading the billboards. I am pretty sure that they, similar to us, didn't pay their money to see the Okamoto exhibit.
