If you put your head down and work you will be and do fine. This school does provide many different college courses that would help you succeed in college as well as certain staff that are looking out for your interests. With that being said, there were some members of the staff and faculty there that didn't care. Some of the opportunities for sports were limited as politics played a huge role in who made the team or who played.
I graduated from VHS in 1996. I received an outstanding high school education--in only 3 years --that prepared me well for Princeton at age 16. I still vividly recall finding the rigor of my freshman year at Princeton not too different from my senior year at VHS, when I took 4 AP classes. The school at that time offered many APs with outstanding faculty in both STEM and in the liberal arts.
Our orchestra program, at the time under director Denny Heckel, was well-known and complemented my cello study, which contributed to my also getting admitted into several prestigious music schools and conservatories such as Eastman and Oberlin. Many of my friends and peers similarly gained entry into Ivy League institutions and top-rated colleges and universities around the nation and are all successful. (VHS is a feeder school for SUNY Binghamton and Cornell.)
College admissions officers and parents: Vestal High School is a gem in the rough for people who do not know the Southern Tier very well!

Actually my high school experience is the worst experience of my entire life, so far. I moved to Vestal High School during the Covid-19 pandemic and I have never felt included here. I was bullied so bad and the school administration did not ever address it. It was swept under the rug. One good thing about Vestal is the Spanish Dept. If it wasn't for their teachers I don't think I would've survived. I also had the best school counselor who understood my struggles and helped me through.
