Pixies – Velouria Lyrics | Genius Lyrics

Velouria Lyrics

[Verse 1: Black Francis, Kim Deal]
Hold my head
We'll trampoline
Finally through the roof (Finally through the roof)
On to somewhere near
And far in time

[Verse 2: Black Francis, Kim Deal]
Velouria
Her covering
Traveling career (Traveling career)
She can really move
Oh velveteen

[Chorus: Black Francis & Kim Deal]
My Velouria, my Velouria
Even I'll adore ya, my Velouria
Even I'll adore ya, my Velouria
Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah

[Verse 3: Black Francis, Kim Deal]
Say to me
Where have you been?
Finally through the roof (Finally through the roof)
And how does lemur skin
Reflect the sea?

[Bridge: Black Francis]
We will wade in the shine of the ever
We will wade in the shine of the ever
We will wade in the tides of the summer
Every summer, every
My Velouria, my Velouria

[Verse 4: Black Francis, Kim Deal]
Forever green
I know she's here
In California (California)
I can see the tears
Of Shasta sheen

[Chorus: Black Francis & Kim Deal]
My Velouria, my Velouria (V-E-L-O-U-R-I-A)
Even I'll adore ya, my Velouria (V-E-L-O-U-R-I-A)
Even I'll adore ya, my Velouria (V-E-L-O-U-R-I-A)
Even I'll adore ya, my Velouria (V-E-L-O-U-R-I-A)
Even I'll adore ya, my Velouria (V-E-L-O-U-R-I-A)

[Outro: Kim Deal]
(V-E-L-O-U-R-I-A)
(V-E-L-O-U-R-I-A)
(V-E-L-O-U-R-I-A)
(V-E-L-O-U-R-I-A)

About

Genius Annotation

The third track on Bossanova is one of the most discussed in Pixies lore, because the lyrics seem to have no clear meaning. However, statements by Black Francis make it clear that Velouria is about an alien woman who seduces the narrator during a trek through the California mountains.

In this interview/performance, the author Black Francis explains the origin of the idea for the song.

Essentially, there was a secret society in California called the Rosicrucians (little relation to the rosicrucians of old). They believed in a lost land mass that used to connect Madagascar to India called Lemuria. The people of Lemuria were furry, but smooth. They had shiny fur. When Lemuria sank, the Lemurians relocated to Mount Shasta in California and have lived there ever since. This song is about meeting one of these Lemurians from Mt. Shasta. Her name is Velouria and she’s furry, but smooth.
