A New Universal Theme Park Is Coming to Texas—Here’s What We Know

Updated: Jan. 25, 2023

Get ready for "a one-of-a-kind theme park" coming to this Northern Texas city.

Universal Parks & Resorts is no stranger to immersing its fans in fantastic new worlds. Whether it be the beloved Harry Potter World—where you really feel like you’re in a Harry Potter movie—or Springfield, home of The Simpsons, millions of fans flock to Universal parks around the world every year for unmatched theme park experiences.

Now, fans and families alike will be able to enjoy a newly announced Universal theme park! While there are many Universal parks and resorts worldwide, this specific park will open in Northern Texas.

Particularly intended for families with young kids, the park will be “unlike any other in the world,” an official Universal Parks & Resorts press release states. We’re already adding it to our list of best family vacation ideas.

Here’s everything we know about the exciting new park so far.

What will the new Universal Park be like?

The imagined park concept shows a park “set in a lush green landscape” that features “immersive themed lands.” The park’s goal is to engage “younger audiences” and an overall family-friendly, regional audience. Additionally, the park “is intended to have a completely different look, feel and scale than Universal’s existing parks.”

While the park aims to be distinct, there are hopes to still bring everyone’s favorite Universal components to the new park as well: “entertainment, humor and innovation and [that] brings to life its beloved characters and stories.” Bonuses of interactive shows, character meet and greets and attractions for the whole family to enjoy will are all part of the park’s concept.

This new park may just make the Disney World vs. Universal debate even tougher than it already is.

What Texas city will the new Universal Park be in?

The new park, purchased on 97 acres of land, will be located in Frisco, Texas. The Northern Texas city is home to around 210,000 residents and is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area.

Some may be wondering why Frisco was the choice of this new park rather than its typical locations of Florida or California. Universal attributes the choice to the up-and-coming population of Frisco, as well as its ability to “attract businesses to the area.”

“We think North Texas is the perfect place to launch this unique park for families given its growing popularity within this part of the country,” President of New Ventures of Universal Parks & Resorts, Page Thompson said in a statement.

We know we’re already adding it to our Texas road trips idea list!

When will the park open?

As of now, no official release date has been set.

However, there are plenty of plans still in the works for the venture. According to Universal’s press release, there are hopes to build a themed hotel at the location and continue the park’s overall expansion.

Until then, we’ll continue to dream up more about what the latest Universal Park endeavor will look like.
