Summary

  • Uncharted 2 needs to introduce Elena Fisher from the games.
  • Chloe Frazer's presence in the first Uncharted movie reflects their romantic past in the source material.
  • Introducing Elena implies Tom Holland's Nathan Drake will have the happy ending of his game counterpart.

Uncharted 2 needs to delve further into the source material for the follow-up to 2022's movie and bring in a key character to Nathan "Nate" Drake's journey. The cast of the first Uncharted movie barely scratched the surface when introducing figures from the game series. While Uncharted 2 hasn't been officially confirmed yet, comments from those involved suggest it's a matter of when rather than a matter of if. As such, the potential upcoming movie is the perfect opportunity to bring one specific character from the games into the fold.

The Uncharted movie made several key changes to the games when the story was being adapted for the big screen, so any new characters would need to undergo a similar process to fit within the latest version of the world. Regardless, Nathan Drake's arc throughout every Uncharted game is dictated by those around him as well as his own choices and adventures, so it's paramount that a second movie doesn't just stick with Victor "Sully" Sullivan and Chloe Frazer as his companions.

Uncharted 2 Needs To Bring Elena Fisher Into The Movies From The Games

Elena isn't in the first Uncharted movie

Elena is Nate's main romantic interest in the Uncharted games. Their chemistry is evident from the first game, and while their romantic entanglement isn't exactly consistent, it is a defining part of Nate's story. Tom Holland's Nathan Drake is younger than the original game character, so while his adventuring career has bloomed much earlier than his digital counterpart, he also hasn't yet met Elena. Nate doesn't have a solid love interest in 2022's Uncharted, but his dynamic with Sophia Ali's Chloe Frazer is very romantically charged, even if they don't end the movie on good terms.

When Elena is being recast for Uncharted 2, it would be more suitable for the character to be of a similar age to Tom Holland's version of the witty protagonist.

Elena was originally portrayed by Emily Rose in the Uncharted games, but given the adaptation's trend of aging down its core cast of characters, it wouldn't make sense for Rose to reprise her Uncharted role. Holland's Drake, like the actor who plays him, is in his mid-late twenties. So, when Elena is being recast for Uncharted 2, it would be more suitable for the character to be of a similar age to Tom Holland's version of the witty protagonist.

Chloe Frazer Being Introduced In 2022's Uncharted Movie Sets Up Elena's Cinematic Debut

Chloe & Nate have a romantic history that's never shown in the games

The Uncharted movie leaves the relationship between Nate and Chloe intentionally vague. While it's strongly implied they shared a bed, the movie doesn't even go as far as to show them kissing. That being said, the novelization of the movie is much more direct with what the duo got up to away from prying eyes. However, whether movie novelizations are canon is another debate entirely. Unclear dynamics aside, it makes perfect sense for Chloe to appear in the movies before Elena makes her debut.

While Elena is arguably a more prominent figure in Nate's ultimate destiny, having her appear before Chloe would have been inaccurate.

The character of Chloe Frazer first appears in the 2009 game Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. In the time between the first two games, Nate and Elena were in a relationship, and then it ended almost as swiftly. However, the introduction of Chloe reveals that she shares a romantic history with Nate that pre-dates his first meeting with Elena. The movie honors Uncharted canon by showing the initial meeting between Nate and Chloe before Elena entered the fray. So, while Elena is arguably a more prominent figure in Nate's ultimate destiny, having her appear before Chloe would have been inaccurate.
