Ty Burrell ( Full name: Tyler Gerald Burrell) is an American comedian and actor. He is best known for his role on the ABC sitcom Modern Family appearing as Phil Dunphy. The role that won Ty the Primetime Emmy Award (from eight consecutive nominations) in a Comedy Series in 2011 and 2014 for Outstanding Supporting Actor. The same role won him an Outstanding Performance shared with the cast from 2011 to 2014 by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.

Also, Ty has had a number of roles in Broadway shows e.g  Macbeth and off-Broadway plays such as Burn This. Apart from that, Ty had a starring role on the tv series Back to You and Out of Practice. He as well appeared in a number of films including Muppets Most Wanted, Dawn of the Dead,  Black Hawk Down, and Evolution. Ty appeared as Doc Samson in The Incredible Hulk.  Apart from that, he voiced characters in animated films such as Storks, Finding Dory, and Mr. Peabody & Sherman.

He was born to his mother Sheri Rose (née Hauck) and his father Gary Gerald Burrell on August 22, 1967, in Grants Pass, Oregon, United States of America. Sheri is a retired teacher while Gary was a therapist born in 1940 and died in 1989. Ty is of English and German descent. However, he discovered through Finding Your Roots that through his great-great-grandmother, he is also of African descent. Ty’s great-great-grandmother was formerly enslaved girl from Tennessee who later became a homesteader in Oregon. Ty was raised in Applegate, Oregon, near the California border.

Ty signed an overall deal with 20th Century Fox Tv in November 2014, to develop his own comedy projects.
