Zimet Wins C-USA Coach of the Year; Four Earn All-Conference Honors

NEW ORLEANS – Following a record-setting season on the sand Tulane University beach volleyball garnered several postseason honors from Conference USA, the league office announced Friday. Head Coach Eyal Zimet was named the CUSA Coach of the Year while four student-athletes earned All-Conference honors.

"I am extremely proud of and happy for our student-athletes," Zimet said. "Collegiate beach volleyball is relying on every single player in each flight to be on the same mission, we are proud of each one for pushing hard through this entire academic year."

Zimet led the Green Wave to a program record 26 wins this spring and its first trip to the CUSA Championship final. Under Zimet's guidance Tulane tallied three wins over ranked opponents this season with two of those coming in the CUSA Championship.

"It is a perfect icing-on-the-cake to garner the recognition earned by Sam Green, Skylar Ensign, Molly Trodd, and Tawny Ensign." Zimet stated. "We are extremely happy and excited for all of our extraordinary student-athletes on their spectacular season together on the sand."

Tulane received two All-Conference First Team nods for Samantha Green and Skylar Ensign. Green and Ensign posted a 32-6 record together this spring with five of those victories coming against ranked teams. The 32 wins as a pair set the single-season record for the Wave for victories in a season and led the conference this spring. Green and Ensign were also named CUSA All-Tournament after going 4-0 at flight four in the tournament.

Sophomore Molly Trodd garnered All-Conference honors for the second year in a row landing a spot on the All-Conference Second Team. Trodd ended the season with a 16-23 overall record including 11 wins at flight one and five at flight two. She played with Sara Hall and Trinity Jackson throughout the season and registered two wins over ranked teams. Trodd and Hall earned a win at flight one over No. 7 LSU and Trodd with Jackson picked up a victory against No. 4 Cal Poly at flight one.

Skylar Ensign landed her second All-Conference honor alongside her twin sister Tawny. The Newport Beach, California, products were named to the CUSA All-Freshman Team. Skylar paired with Green for a record-setting year with 32 wins to set the program record and lead the league in victories.

Tawny played with Lara Torruella at flights three and four throughout the season to post a 14-3 record. Among her 14 victories were four wins against ranked opponents including No. 10 LMU, No. 14 FIU, No, 16 Stetson, and No. 19 FAU. She also earned All-CUSA Tournament honors with Torruella after clinching the match victory over 14th-ranked FIU.

"The attention to detail," said Zimet, "from the classroom to each rep in practice — was admirable, and combined with off-the-charts competitiveness and an 'out sized' heart, made it an absolute joy to see firsthand their extraordinary feats on the court. Huge congratulations to Molly, Sam, Sky, and Tawny again, well earned!"
