"Trouble with the Curve" is good fall entertainment for those who aren't looking for a big challenge and like old-school baseball over the statistic-heavy "Moneyball."

It's predictable and kind of hokey, but it also won me over in spite of its missteps. It's a film that gets by largely on its star power, with Clint Eastwood and Amy Adams making this much more bearable than it probably should be.

Eastwood manages to maintain his decorum throughout, like some veteran pitcher who's lost the speed off his fastball and relies on a sneaky change-up. He does just a few things, but he does them remarkably well.
