In five prolific years, Duke’s Arabic debate team has made four appearances at the United States Universities Arabic Debating Championship, winning back-to-back national titles in 2022 and 2023. Faculty advisor and senior lecturer of Arabic in Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, Maha Houssami, acknowledges the foreign language skills and intercultural experiences students gain last much longer than a wins and losses tally.

Following two years of work by the Trinity Curriculum Development Committee, the Arts & Sciences Council adopted a new curriculum that will take effect in Fall 2025. The A&S curriculum governs much of undergraduate education at Duke and the changes will speak to the interests and needs of our students in the coming decades.
