Edward Thomas Hardy was born in Hammersmith, London, on September 15, 1977. His mother, Anne Barret, is a painter and his father, Edward Hardy, is a writer. An only child, Hardy attended Tower House School, Reed’s School, and Duff Miller Sixth Form College.

Later, Hardy studied acting at the Richmond Drama School and the Drama Centre London.

Acting Career

In 1998, Hardy entered the Find Me a Supermodel contest of the UK’s The Big Breakfast. He won the competition and, along with it, a contract with Models One. While not necessarily an acting job, this event marks Hardy’s entry into show business.

It was in 2001 when Hardy got both his first TV and film roles. First, he was cast as John Janovec in the miniseries Band of Brothers. Shortly after, he appeared in Black Hawk Down under the direction of Ridley Scott. More film roles came in the following years, such as in Star Trek: Nemesis, Dot the I, LD 50 Lethal Dose, EMR, and Layer Cake.

The following year, Hardy played the title role in the drama Locke. With a minimal budget of only $2 million, the film grossed $5 million globally.

Despite the film not being a huge hit, it resulted in several award nominations from small film critic groups, several of which Hardy would win.

Peaky Blinders

In 2014, Hardy was cast in a supporting role in the British crime drama Peaky Blinders opposite series star Cillian Murphy. Hardy’s Charlotte Riley was part of the cast.
