this is one of those films that makes me scared to make art because im scared it’ll turn out as bad as this did
Subtracting a half star because it’s too short. A beautiful love letter to Tokyo, 70s movies, and impossible love. I need that guy’s suits.
Has some really pedestrian level dialogue and acting from the lead guy, but me being a huge sucker for all things Cinephilia, Japan and Queen Moss liked it regardless 🤷🏻♂️
In this HBO sponsored short film, a married man and a mysterious woman keep encountering each other while visiting in Tokyo. Eventually they hook up; but not before we are treated to a romantic view of Tokyo at its most picturesque. Ebon Moss-Bachrach (from Girls) and Elizabeth Moss (TV "it-girl" of the decade) are the two American tourists. It's a thoughtful script with a surprising hook and beautiful cinematography. Watch the artful preparation of an amazing cocktail at an upscale sake bar (and note the recipe is in the end credits.) It's little touches like this that enhance the pleasures of this gem.
I am head over heels for Elisabeth Moss. I will watch anything and everything for her because I know, she would never disappoint me.
Nice short from HBO. Very good turns from Elisabeth Moss & Ebon Moss-Bacharach (Girls).
Dialogue's a bit iffy, but otherwise a quite wonderful melancholic travelogue short (which has gotta be one of the best niche genres there is). The supercut-like inserts, the piano score and the twist are specially good. Also, going places seems kind of nice.
