Weeks Assumes Command of Program Executive Office Undersea Warfare Systems

By Team Submarine Public Affairs

WASHINGTON – Capt. Todd Weeks relieved Mr. Michael D. McClatchey as Program Executive Officer, Undersea Warfare Systems (PEO UWS) during a change of office ceremony at the Washington Navy Yard, July 21.

The eight program offices within PEO UWS enable the delivery of enhanced combat capability to all submarine platforms with improved cybersecurity and resiliency.

The acting Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development, and Acquisition Frederick J. Stefany expressed his gratitude for the job done by McClatchy during his keynote address.

“This isn’t a standard change of office. Mike has been serving as PEO UWS in an acting capacity since June 2022,” said Stefany. “Let me tell you, it’s not easy, and it’s an act of service. So I want to make sure we thank Mike not only for the awesome job he has done, but also for the fact that he’s done it in an acting capacity.”

During McClatchey’s time as PEO, Team UWS improved torpedo production capacity; developed a Foreign Military Sales strategy; successfully executed the first-ever very light weight torpedo anti-submarine warfare test event; provided critical support to the underway fleet; and transformed the approach to Submarine Warfare Federated Tactical Systems and Maritime Surveillance Systems, enabling seamless, speedy, cyber-resilient delivery of capabilities to the fleet.

“Serving in this capacity for the past 13 months has truly been an honor, especially as I reflect on Team UWS’s incredibly dedicated efforts, outstanding performance, ingenuity, and numerous successes achieved over that time,” said McClatchey. “I am excited to partner with Capt. Weeks and continue these efforts.”

McClatchey will return to his role as the Executive Director of PEO UWS.

Capt. Weeks is reporting to PEO UWS after serving as the major program manager for the Virginia class submarine program. During his tenure, the program achieved a program first by executing the near simultaneous delivery of USS Oregon (SSN 793) and USS Montana (SSN 794), re-delivered USS Vermont (SSN 792) following post-shakedown availability, and provided critical program leadership to build capacity and capability for continued production of new construction submarines.

“Thank you to Mike McClatchey for his leadership of PEO UWS the last 13 months,” said Weeks. “I am excited to be joining this incredible team and I look forward to working with all of you as we continue to deliver the undersea advantage.”

The Navy’s Team Submarine comprises PEO UWS, PEO Attack Submarines, PEO Strategic Submarines, and the Australia-UK-US (AUKUS) Integration & Acquisition Office. PEO UWS executes the acquisition, research, development, and sustainment of undersea weapon, countermeasure, combat system, training, and sensor systems for the Navy’s attack and strategic submarines.
