Albert Gore, youngest child of former Vice President Al Gore and Tipper Gore, and Brittany Toscano were married Saturday in Washington, D.C.’s Union Station, with a reception taking place in the East Hall of the historic depot, a representative for the senior Gore tells PEOPLE.

The bride, 28, and groom, 31, live in New York City and first met as high-school students at Sidwell Friends in Washington, but did not begin dating until 2010, after reconnecting at a New Year’s Eve party in the nation’s capital.

Originally a long-distance couple separately based in New York and Washington – she works in non-profit fundraising and development, and he currently an MBA candidate – they chose Union Station as their wedding venue because of the central role it played nearly every weekend early in their relationship.

“The couple wanted to create an intimate occasion and relied on family and friends for many aspects of the wedding,” said the rep.

Ali Galgano, founder of Charm & Chain, a designer fashion jewelry company, and EngagedNYC.com, designed the bride’s ring, and the ceremony was officiated by family members. Guests also included family and close friends.

The bride, who carried lilies of the valley and sweet peas in a classic French-style bouquet, was walked down the aisle by her parents, Tracey Toscano and J. Toscano.

Monique Lhuillier designed the bridal dress, with a veil made by Peter Langner.

The reception featured music played by Chris Norton, one of the couple’s favorite musicians, whom they met when he performed at the Jazz Room on Manhattan’s Lower East Side.

The groom’s parents were also in attendance (Al and Tipper Gore separated in 2010 after 40 years of marriage, but have not filed for divorce).

Saturday’s ceremony marked the second recent Gore family wedding. Youngest daughter Sarah Gore married Montecito, California-based pianist Patrick Maiani in April.
