Product Description

Time Pieces, the new album by double-bass player Kyle Eastwood, is a musical self-portrait. Organized around the quintet's often collective compositions, Eastwood offers a couple of covers (Herbie Hancock and Horace Silver) that show his passion for lyrical hard bop, and a fresh interpretation of one of his compositions for the cinema - one of the main focal points of Eastwood's career. Full of melodic elegance and a sustained sense of groove, Time Pieces puts us right at the heart of a modern, contemporary jazz songbook. Eastwood is joined by Brandon Allen on sax, Quentin Collins on trumpet and flugelhorn, Andre McCormack on piano and drummer Ernesto Simpson.

Review

Time Pieces is what he calls a 'return to his jazz roots.' And a grand return it is...the discs lineup boasts original compositions by Eastwood, with some help from his very gifted quintet of English jazz musicians
- Chicago Sun-Times

Time Pieces, the new album released March 10th by Kyle Eastwood is nothing short of amazing. [It's] the consummate masterpiece of an artist whose star is still very much on the rise. --Smooth Jazz Magazine

Theres no question about this one, Kyle Eastwoods outstanding Time Pieces succeeds in delivering a measure of swing, swagger and grace in a musical package that's perfect for any time.
All About Jazz

This is very good jazz disc by an accomplished veteran player...The soloing here is plentiful, robust and sometimes blistering and virtuosic, whether the tune is fusion or hard bop. --The Buffalo News

Blowin' the Blues Away receives a joyful, heady performance with virtuoso riffs from all players in the quintet...Its enthusiastic, hard-driving precision is hard to resist; it is my favorite cut on the album.
- Recording of the Month, Soundstage!

he takes his quintet and the listener on a tour of cool, tight, good-natured jazz with touches of funk and lyricism and plenty of easy virtuosity. --BlogCritics
