Tiffany Haddish is feeling stronger than ever! The comedian recently took to Instagram to share before-and-after pictures of her progress since beginning a 30-day fitness program on Nov. 30.

Haddish said she’s “ready to build muscle” after completing Luther Freeman’s 30 Day Transformation program. The actress, who previously struggled with homelessness and food insecurity, told People that she was inspired by the late Olympian Florence Griffith Joyner. “I had this thought in my mind that I want the body of Flo-Jo!” she said.

In December, Haddish told People she’d lost 40 pounds in 2020 after weighing in at 182 pounds last year on her birthday. The Like a Boss star lost an additional 10 pounds three weeks into her 30-day fitness program.

“I feel like if I would have done this 10 years ago, it would have been a lot easier,” Haddish admitted in an Instagram Live, adding that her body feels “achy.” But now, she’s feeling better than ever at 41. “I’m stronger than I thought I was. I definitely have more endurance than I thought I have.”

Here’s everything Haddish has shared about her weight loss journey.

1. She quit smoking and hit the gym.

In July 2018, Haddish decided to quit smoking. While kicking the habit is for the best, it’s common for people to gain around five to 10 pounds a month after giving up cigarettes (as the nicotine typically speeds up your metabolism). “I’ve been eating like it ain’t nobody’s business,” she told Ellen DeGeneres in October 2019. “To counteract that, I started working out on the fourth of July.”

She now exercises every day “anywhere from 15 minutes to sometimes two hours,” Haddish told People. “And I try to dance every day for like five to ten minutes. I think that’s really important, too. Make it fun!”

Haddish also told Harper’s Bazaar that she loves group workouts (pre-COVID!), and looks for little ways to move her body during the day. “I prefer to do stairs, like if I’m in a tall building I like to go up and down the stairs,” she said. For extra motivation, she invested in home gym equipment, like kettlebells and a Peloton bike, to ensure she can maintain her fitness routine, she said in an Instagram video.

2. She’s following a personalized weight loss program.

On Instagram, the actress shared a mirror photo saying that she recently started Luther Freeman’s 30-Day Transformation program, which offers personalized fitness and nutrition plans. The program evaluates your body mass index (BMI) and lifestyle, and then makes a custom plan featuring nutrition tips and workouts such as plyometrics, cardio, and strength training.

“Started my @30daytransformationteam program three days ago and look I think I see ABS and my bra [is] getting loose,” Haddish wrote on Instagram.

3. She gets her workouts in early.

In an Instagram Live, Haddish revealed that she was waking up at 2:00 in the morning to get her workouts in. “I was going to bed at 8 or 9:00, waking up at 2:00, working out for like 30 minutes,” she said. Then, she takes a speedy shower and heads to work at 3:00 a.m.

Of course, the schedule was difficult at times. “There was definitely crying,” she said. “But here’s the thing, I’m in control of my mind, and my mind controls my body.”

4. She loads up on protein and veggies.

Eating a healthy, nutritious diet was key to Haddish’s weight loss. “I’ve been eating differently, eating way more vegetables, definitely eating directly out of my garden and just really putting in the work, making sure I sweat every single day and staying up on nutrition,” she told People. “Nutrition is everything.”

The 30-day program also had her follow a vegan diet, which she admitted was not easy. “They gave me this whole vegan menu, meals and stuff, and so I’m cooking for myself,” she said, adding that she also enjoyed juices.

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Haddish said she grows strawberries, kale, Swiss chard, celery, and more in her home garden. She loves to throw them together into a juice in the mornings. She also sips on turmeric and ginger tea for a cozy drink while she’s traveling, and for snacks, she usually reaches for fruits, nuts, or pickles (the woman loves pickles). Haddish told People that she’ll probably enjoy some meat after her 30-day program ends, but will be conscious of how much she is consuming.

Quitting smoking, upping your workouts, and overhauling your diet? It’s not easy. Go, Tiffany!
