Thomas Markle Obituary

Thomas "Tom" R. Markle July 13, 2022 "Tom" Thomas R. Markle, 83 of Kirkville, NY passed peacefully on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at home with his family by his side. Tom was born on January 30, 1939, in Canastota, N.Y. to the late Carl and Anna Markle, and was a lifelong resident of Canastota and Chittenango Area. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Carol L. Markle, two sons Doug Virgil and Robert Dumont and two daughters, Lisa Rutkowski and Jennine Dumont. Tom is also survived by 12 amazing grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Additionally, he is survived by his brother Melvin Markle and sisters, Edna May Johnson, Patricia Marshall, Donna Bednar and Linda Narzimski. Tom was predeceased by brothers, Carl and Fred Markle and sisters, Mary, Wilda, Janet, Sandra and Diana. At an early age Tom worked on several farms in the central New York area and at 18 joined the United States Army where he was deployed in central Europe as a logistics specialist and heavy truck driver. Upon leaving military service in 1960, Tom began his construction career working for several building corporations operating heavy equipment while learning to be a self-made carpenter. He eventually transitioned to be a full-time carpenter and mentor to many who worked under him. Tom framed homes for several building companies and branched out into several partnerships before opening Thomas R. Markle Contracting where he built hundreds of homes in the Central New York Area over the course of his career. Tom was an active member and Deacon of the Fyler Community Church and enjoyed playing and sponsoring several soft ball teams in the Town of Sullivan and was in several bowling leagues and a member of the former Moose Club in Oneida. He was an outdoors "guy" at his core, working outside most of his life and in his down time loved gardening, hitting golf balls and skeet shooting. Tom lived an honest, hard-working, and genuine life. He helped many who knew him and never turned away from doing a favor for a friend or a neighbor and most of all, taking care of his family. He was quick witted and enjoyed telling a good joke if it meant putting someone at ease who may have been going through a difficult time. We will all miss his sense of humor and his presence. Services will be held at the G.F. Zimmer Funeral Home, 702 Legion Drive, Chittenango at 12:00 noon on Saturday, July 23, 2022 with Military Honors to follow. Calling hours will be 10:00 am – 12:00 noon Saturday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to Hospice and Palliative Care, the American Heart Association, and the Fyler Community Church. G.F. ZIMMER F.H.
