When Thomas Grey 2nd Marquess of Dorset was born on 22 June 1477, in Bashall Eaves, Yorkshire, England, his father, Sir Thomas Grey 1st Marquess of Dorset, 1st Earl of Huntingdon, 7th Baron Ferrers of Groby, K.G., was 21 and his mother, Lady Cecily Bonville, was 16. He married Margaret Wotton Marchioness of Dorset on 6 January 1509. They were the parents of at least 6 sons and 5 daughters. He died on 10 October 1530, in Bashall Eaves, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom, at the age of 53, and was buried in Astley, Warwickshire, England.
