Andrew L. Dow, Jr.
Andrew L. Dow, Jr. departed this life at home in Chattanooga, TN, at the age of 95.
He was the youngest of 10 children born to the late Mary and Andrew L. Dow, Sr. He was born January 13, 1926, and passed away on December 16, 2021.
Andrew was born and raised in Elliston, VA. At the age of 18, he was drafted into the US Army. Serving 20 years, he retired from service at Ft. Campbell, KY. He and his wife moved to Clarksville, Tn., where they raised their daughter. While residing in Clarksville, he joined Mount Olive Baptist Church, and also became a long-time member of Saint James Lodge #51. He retired from Montgomery Ward. He loved telling jokes. He was always willing to help others in any capacity that he could. He was very generous and kind.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Gladys Dow; his stepson, George Williams; siblings, brothers, Weldon Dow, Samuel Dow, and Carl Dow; sisters, Clifford Harris, Maleta Hairston, Doris Norrell, Marie Hicks, and Willie Battle.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a daughter, Karin (Robby) McKinney, Chattanooga, Tn.; granddaughter, Re’nitta (Michael) Lyons, Lenoir, N.C.; five great-grandchildren, Thomas, Seth, Joanna, Jacob, and Abigail; a loving sister, Laura Toms, Columbus, Ohio; many devoted nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
A 11 a.m. graveside service will be held Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
A memorial service will be held Monday, December 27, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Gateway Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 335 Franklin Street, Clarksville, TN, 37040, 931-919-2600.
