James Stewart and Kim Novak are great in Vertigo and what a plot! WE watched the Blu-Ray and not the 4K version, and the picture was still great in 1080p. HAVE TO COMMENT on the AUDIO: so impressed by how the soundstage was anchored to our 12ft screen and the scene ambiance of our theater room; this was uncannily apparent in dialog between actors: voices popped out of their mouths on the screen, all the while surrounding ambiance was maintained. MOST far more modern and high-tech-endowed movies do not approximate this level of realism.
Rear Window was another suspense classic. Soundstage not quite so good as in Vertigo. But James Stewart's performance, and the PLOT (whatever happened to plots?) drove this without sex, violence, explosions, "special effects" to a pitch we could not ignore. Wow!
We'd enjoyed James Stewart in Flight of the Phoenix (another MUST WATCH if you enjoy drama and great acting) and It's Wonderful Life. Want more of that quality. We will look for more of Mr. Hitchcock's work.
The details are amazing. There was so much lost details while watching these movies on regular TV in the past. On a larger flat screen and surround sound the terror is real.
Top reviews from other countries
The story of a recuperating news photographer who believes he has witnessed a murder. Confined to a wheelchair after an accident, he spends his time watching the occupants of neighbouring apartments through a telephoto lens and binoculars and becomes convinced that a murder has taken place.
VERTIGO (1958)
An ex-police officer who suffers from an intense fear of heights is hired to prevent an old friend's wife from committing suicide, but all is not as it seems.
PSYCHO (1960)
Phoenix secretary Marion Crane (Janet Leigh), on the lam after stealing $40,000 from her employer in order to run away with her boyfriend, Sam Loomis (John Gavin), is overcome by exhaustion during a heavy rainstorm. Traveling on the back roads to avoid the police, she stops for the night at the ramshackle Bates Motel and meets the polite but highly strung proprietor Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins), a young man with an interest in taxidermy and a difficult relationship with his mother.
THE BIRDS (1963)
Melanie Daniels (Tippi Hedren) meets Mitch Brenner (Rod Taylor) in a San Francisco pet store and decides to follow him home. She brings with her the gift of two love birds and they strike up a romance. One day birds start attacking children at Mitch's sisters party. A huge assault starts on the town by attacking birds.
I am so happy I picked this up. Big Hitchcock fan
I would strongly recommend this 4k collection to everybody, whether you are a Hitchcock fan or not. If you are not a Hitchcock fan, what an amazing way to introduce yourself to the genius of this man's movies. I would love to discover these movies for the first time on this format. If you are already a Hitchcock fan through and through like me, please be prepared. There maybe tears. To see the love and care that the studios have shown these films is so heart warming. Watching Vertigo is like having cattaracts removed and seeing the love of your life again after twenty years.
Those who are waiting for reviews of this collection, you are wasting precious time with your beloved films. Buy now, you wont be disappointed.
