About Wheatley
The Wheatley School is an exceptional school enrolling approximately 705 students in grades 8-12. Wheatley's student body is predominantly college-bound, and the school prepares students well to meet the challenges they will face when they graduate. A broad spectrum of courses is offered, with honors or accelerated programs in mathematics, science, English and world languages. Over twenty college-level courses in English, Spanish, French, United States History, Human Geography, US Government, art, calculus, biology, chemistry, physics, statistics, psychology and computer science challenge the talented student body. A variety of dual-enrollment courses permit students to earn credit at regional colleges while completing classes. Situated on a fifty-acre campus, the physical facilities include a 25,000 volume student library, modern science and computer labs, a student art gallery, a television production studio, and a 575 seat auditorium. An 1100 seat gymnasium, auxiliary gym/wrestling room, and a weight training room support the school's physical education program, as does a modern track, turf field, tennis courts, and fields for baseball, field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, and softball. Wheatley supports a wide variety of co-curricular activities for students. The school publishes a monthly newspaper, an annual poetry and art magazine, and a yearbook. Students participate in scholastic competitions through mock trial teams, computer and mathematics teams, and the Brainstormers team. There are also clubs for those students interested in photography, art, technology, video production, and environmental issues. An active Drama Club and Stage Crew produce at least two school productions each year, and there is an involved student government. Traditional class governments, local chapters of the National Honor Society and World Language Honor Societies in French, Spanish and Italian along with various other clubs round out the school's broad co-curricular program.
