Jordan Peele's next movie after Nope now has a release date, and it certainly raises a few questions. Peele announced himself as a major voice in the horror genre with Get Out in 2017, a film that he followed up with Us in 2019. After his thrilling venture into science-fiction horror with Nope last summer, the director now has his sights set on a new project.

According to a new report from Variety, Peele's next directorial effort will release on Wednesday, December 25, 2024. The release date will see the film hit theaters only days after James Cameron's Avatar 3, which is scheduled to release on December 20. Unfortunately, no other details about Peele's next movie are known, including its title, plot, or cast, but the release date could hint that Peele's next movie is somehow holiday-themed.

Should Jordan Peele Make A Christmas Horror Movie?

The family in Us stands ominously in front of the fireplace.

Peele has not yet written or directed a horror movie that deals with a specific holiday, but he may actually be a great fit for this horror niche. Peele has consistently proven that he knows how to take the expected and turn it on its head, delivering solid scares and exploring complex, interesting themes. While all of his films deal with race to some extent, Get Out, in particular, explored what it means to be Black in America in an unexpected way that no movie had ever done before.

As with Us, Nope also featured a number of surprising twists and turns. Peele took what could have been a fairly straightforward UFO thriller and used it as a device to explore the notion of spectacle itself. If the director's next project is indeed anyway related to Christmas or the holiday season, it's very likely he will somehow subvert expectations and do something fresh and entirely unexpected with it.

Christmas has been the setting of past horror movies, including the likes of like Krampus and Black Christmas, but there are a number of challenges that come with telling a scary story set during the holiday season. For starters, the appetite for Christmas horror movies just doesn't seem to be that big for general audiences. However, it's still possible that Peele's next film will have nothing to do with Christmas at all. Hopefully, more details come to light over the course of the next year as development gets underway.
