The Steamie follows the lives of a group of women in the 1950s. The women regularly meet at the public washhouse "The Steamie" in Glasgow. Dolly is friendly and loves nothing more than to chat. Margaret is also kindhearted, but sometimes a little surly. Doreen is a beautiful young lady, but unfortunately not the brightest of the bunch. Mrs Caulfeathers is an elderly lady who misses her family and finally there is Andy, the handyman, who appreciates his glasses of whiskey.
