      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Like its predecessor, Smurfs 2 may amuse small children, but it's largely an unambitious, charm-free collection of slapstick gags and one-liners.

Anderson O This strangely was told backwards. It told a narrative about Smurfette, when this should have been told in the first movie. It was sort of like a prequel sequel, but not well executed. A fun ending to this movie as well and still bland. Chris Stuckmann ChrisStuckmann.com The Smurfs 2 panders to children, offering nothing more than a series of fart jokes and pratfalls, for the obvious purpose of cashing in on an already established fan base. Rated: D- Apr 23, 2015 Full Review Guy Lodge London Evening Standard In this obnoxiously peppy 3D sequel, "smurf" is an all-purpose prefix that the anaemic script uses when words fail. Which is often. Rated: 2/5 Aug 12, 2013 Full Review Christopher Orr The Atlantic Yes, this is the point in the summer when I outsource my critical judgment to my kids. Aug 7, 2013 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com If any of this makes sense, please seek counseling now. Rated: 2.5/4.0 Sep 23, 2020 Full Review Sarah Gopaul Digital Journal While the first film attempted to have a wider appeal, the sequel casts a smaller net... It simply feels as if filmmakers took a step backwards with this picture. Mar 1, 2019 Full Review Jamie Neish CineVue It's fairly run-of-the-mill in kid's film standards, and the screenwriters' lack of willingness to include anything even remotely edgy makes it difficult for adults to engage with it.
