Transitional Weather Skin Care Routine for Oily Skin

3 mins read

As the seasons shift and our skin adapts, it’s important to adjust our skin care routine accordingly. Transitional skin care is key to keeping our skin rejuvenated and healthy throughout seasonal weather changes.

I’ve experienced firsthand the impact of seasonal weather changes on skin and it never fails to surprise me. During the cooler months of winter, my typically oily skin becomes unexpectedly dry and in need of extra nourishment. As the temperature and humidity gradually rise in spring, my dry skin reverts to its oily nature again.

By making simple tweaks to our skin care routine with the right products, we can ensure that our skin stays balanced and radiant as the weather changes from one season to another. During fluctuating spring weather, I’m always on the hunt for products that effectively address my oily skin without stripping away its essential moisture.

If, like me, balancing skin’s oil and water levels is your top skin care priority right now, scroll on for my spring transitional skin care routine featuring a gel cleanser, toner pads, a serum and a sun stick!

Meditherapy – A Clearing Active BHA Gel Cleanser

What it is: This vegan gel cleanser features BHA (salicylic acid) to cleanse away dead cells and excess oil on the skin’s surface and pores, reducing the occurrence of acne breakouts. It also contains anti-inflammatory ingredients centella asiatica extract and houttuynia cordata extract to alleviate flare-ups. Moisture-replenishing ingredients like hyaluronic acid prevent dry skin after cleansing.

My take: This product is everything I want from a cleanser: it’s gentle on skin and delivers skin-purifying results without strip away moisture. With a pea-sized amount, the gel cleanser lathered into a nice foam that felt gentle and cooling on my skin. Its subtle yet pleasant tea tree scent made the cleansing process relaxing. Most importantly, my skin didn’t feel tight after cleansing.

 SKIN&LAB – Porebarrier Clear Pad

What it is: SKIN&LAB’s Porebarrier Clear Pad contains succinic acid to gently exfoliate impurities and dead skin cells while improving overall skin texture. It features patented ingredient SKIN&LAB-BIOME, as well as sodium hyaluronate and ceramide NP to fortify the skin barrier and protect it against external aggressors. The vegan and cruelty-free formula is suitable for sensitive skin.

My take: Toner pads have always been my toner of choice, so I am happy to say that SKIN&LAB’s Porebarrier Clear Pad didn’t disappoint. The drenched pads provided a chock-full of essence to cover my entire face while offering a soothing sensation. I did find the material on the embossed side of the pad somewhat harsh on my skin, so I preferred using the smooth side as it felt more gentle and comfortable.

THE LAB by blanc doux – Oligo Hyaluronic Acid Hydro Serum

What it is: Featuring patented ingredient Aquaxyl™ and 5,000ppm of low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid, this facial serum enhances the skin’s ability to retain moisture and stay hydrated throughout the day. The lightweight and watery-textured formula also improves skin elasticity, promoting a healthy and supple finish.

My take: In spring and summer seasons, I swap out moisturizers for serums as the latter packs a punch with hydrating ingredients while feeling lightweight and airy on my skin. The Oligo Hyaluronic Acid Hydro Serum left my skin hydrated and supple. I also noticed that my uneven skin texture appeared less prominent after use. The serum’s watery consistency adhered well to my skin and didn’t leave a sticky or greasy finish. Overall, the product checks all the boxes to be my go-to serum during transitional weather. I believe it will work well under a gel moisturizer cream, if you need an extra boost of hydration.

Pyunkang Yul – Airy Protection Sun Stick

What it is: This chemical sun stick is fitted with SPF 50+ PA++++, and it contains calming and moisturizing ingredients like centella asiatica extract, sodium hyaluronate and artemis princeps extract. Camellia sinesis leaf extract and ceramide offers additional soothing properties while enhancing the skin barrier to promote smooth and healthy skin.

My take: As warmer weather approaches, it’s important to use sunscreen for protection from harsh UV rays. I appreciate the compact size of Pyunkang Yul’s Airy Protection Sun Stick as it’s convenient to carry around in my bag. As for its performance, the sun stick applies effortlessly for a smooth matte finish without a white cast. After application, it felt feather-light throughout the day. The sun stick adhered seamlessly beneath my makeup base.
