Product Description

From the mind of Ray Bradbury (Fahrenheit 451, TV’s The Martian Chronicles) comes this made-for-television chiller starring the great Olivia de Havilland (The Snake Pit, Not as a Stranger) as a wealthy former mental patient who goes home to her estate to rest and recuperate. While walking the grounds one day she hears the screams of a woman coming from underneath the ground. Her family, however, refuses to believe her story, and sees the incident as an opportunity to prove the woman’s mind has snapped so they can take control of her money. Jack Smight (Harper) directed this screamingly good thriller from a script by Merwin Gerard (TV’s The Victim) based on a Bradbury short story. Ed Nelson (Airport 1975), Laraine Stephens (Hellfighters), Joseph Cotten (Portrait of Jennie) and Walter Pidgeon (Harry in Your Pocket) lead the stellar supporting cast, with costumes by Edith Head (The Sting) and theme music by John Williams (Jaws).

Special Features:
-Brand New 2K Master
-NEW Audio Commentary by Film Historian/Screenwriter Gary Gerani
-Newly Commissioned Art by Vince Evans
-Optional English Subtitles

First off I watched this as a nine year old and it left quite an impression. The thought of being buried alive is
terrifying no matter your age. I was excited it was coming out in Blu Ray but worried about the quality. Rest
assured the transfer was done with new 2K restoration of the film. Bright vibrant clear picture quality.

This was an ABC Tuesday night movie of the week. Some were very good; Trilogy of Terror, Duel Brian's Song and this movie. I was young and had no idea who Olivia DeHavilland was. She plays a former mental patient who while riding around on her estate hears a women screaming. She goes for help, but no one believes her. Very good supporting cast Including Ed Nelson and Joseph Cotton. Suspenseful, good acting. Exciting conclusion. So happy to see this restored on blu ray.

Kino Lorber is to be commended for releasing these old TV chillers and I will continue to buy them.. But that doesn't mean they are all equally good.. This one basically has a previous mental patient who returns home and begins to hear the cries of a woman buried alive in her backyard. Then for the next 72 minutes she goes back and forth screaming to anyone who will listen about it but no one takes her seriously (previous mental patient you see..) The rest of the movie consists of various family members and confidantes agreeing that she is making the whole thing up. No suspense, no unsettling vibe, no dread, no real twist with the dead body. It just ends. May I suggest the release of perhaps more juicy TV movies not on disc, of which there are dozens? Kind of blah this one sorry.

So glad THE SCREAMING WOMAN finally made it to Blu ray and DVD! No more dusty print of the televised version this is amazing and the movie itself is a great one. I dig it.
