The event marks the king’s first formal public engagement since Feb. 6, when Buckingham Palace announced that he would be taking a break from public duties to focus on his treatment for an undisclosed type of cancer.
Buckingham Palace said Friday that Charles, 75, was "greatly encouraged” by the return "and very grateful to his medical team for their continued care and expertise.”
The change was revealed in a British filing Wednesday, a day before his brother, Prince William, returns to royal duties for the first time since Princess Kate's cancer announcement.
The Prince of Wales will visit west London and Surrey on Thursday to highlight the work of community and environmental impact organizations in the area.
The announcement follows the couple’s 2022 Netflix documentary series that explored Harry’s departure from front-line royal duties and the well-publicized rift between him and other senior royals.
“It’s about destabilization. It’s about undermining trust in institutions: government, monarchy, media — everything,” one security expert told NBC News.
Charles, 75, was accompanied by Queen Camilla and other members of the royal family for his first major public event since he was diagnosed with cancer in February.
