- Colin ClarkJersey, United Kingdom45 contributionsPiratesIf your in Nassau this is worth a look it’s pretty cheap and good to have a wonder round and only takes around 45 mins with some very history and interesting facts about pirates. We enjoyed it. There is a bar when you leave if you fancy a beer too.Visited May 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten May 14, 2023
- Voyager826087Altoona, Pennsylvania40 contributionsWorth the visit for sure! The museum was a perfect way to learn about the history of the islands and escape from the heat. The museum had enough content to learn something new without being overwhelming. The exhibits were enough to keep young kids entertained but may be a bit scary at certain parts. We loved this museum and look forward to returning during our next visit.Visited June 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten June 13, 2023
- Shari CTexas51 contributionsInformative, educationalThe indoor museum was a good place to go on a rainy day. We were a group of adults, so I can't speak to the museum appeal/appropriateness for children. We learned lots of interesting facts. It was mostly reading short paragraphs and some pirate posters. There were large exhibits showing what the inside of a boat etc looked like. Not a whole lot to see. And you just walk through a designated path to view everything on your own.Visited June 2023Written June 26, 2023
- Karen M5 contributionsFun rain breakIt was a fun, dry place to hang out during a tropical downpour. Our self-guided walking tour got interrupted by a squall, so we took a taxi over to see some pirate history. This was a fun small museum. It wasn’t the most academic or cultural choice but we enjoyed it. Definitely a fun way to spend 45 min or so.Visited June 2023Traveled with familyWritten June 28, 2023
- A S14 contributionsSo SoI had high hopes for this museum since Nassau is so rich in pirate history. There is some interesting things in this museum; however the museum is small and you can get through it within about 45 min. The museum is pretty cheesy, but can be a nice break if it rains or to get you out of the heatVisited July 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten July 10, 2023
- Lissy0717Waterford, New York674 contributionsFun time at the Pirate MuseumI really enjoyed my time at the Pirate museum. I would have spent more time there but the person I was with got tired and we had to leave. I loved that the museum took me thru a particular period in time. Thought it was fun that it felt like I was stepping on board a pirate ship. The stories were awesome and the price was right. I thought it was a good deal.Visited August 2023Written August 27, 2023
- HazardBuck30 contributionsWorth the price of admission/ funFun and interesting pirate museum. The walk thru pirate ship was informative as well as well put together in the various depictions of ship life. Great info signs with other displays that have easy to digest /retain bit of pirate history . Well worth the entrance price ! Spent under an hour walking through.Visited October 2023Traveled with friendsWritten October 29, 2023
- helga2522Berkshires, Massachusetts31 contributionsInteresting and readonably priced. The museum was easy to find and the entrance fee was reasonable! The museum had a lot of info and pictures on the white pirates but the sign stated that most pirates were black. We didn’t see any pictures or displays with people of color.Visited December 2023Traveled with friendsWritten December 7, 2023
- KD7152Great Baddow, United Kingdom271 contributionsAy ay Captain! This is a good activity if the weather is terrible or you really love pirates. Looks a little like pirates of the Caribbean ride. You can walk onto the ship. A little more information about life on the ship would be great. At $14 each my thought was a little expensive. It probably takes about 30 mins to go around the attraction.Visited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 15, 2023
- PKEMChelmsford, United Kingdom214 contributionsAn interesting visit on a wet dayIt was a rainy day in Nassau, so my wife and I decided to pass some time by visiting the Pirate museum. It was actually very interesting to see, hear and read about the history of pirates and piracy. It was quite visual and had some good displays. If you are interested in pirates, then worth a visit. I only rated 3, as I thought it was a little expensive.Visited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 16, 2023

This is not really a museum, as there are precious few artifacts. Just a few rifles and swords. The rest are wooden sets with some basic effects. It costs a lot too, especially for what you get($13 per person). I don't recommend this place and I love museums. If the family is bored and you are there with cash to burn then maybe, Otherwise skip this, and spend more time enjoying some of the out of this world beautiful snorkeling sites, like Stuarts Cove or Blue Hole water-sports have to offer.

I really enjoy the history around the Golden Age of Pirates so this was a planned experience during our trip. Was not expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. It's a bit expensive but I thought they did a pretty good job making this interesting to history buff and others as well. The museum takes about 20 min to walk through and the settings could use some updating, but my family and I all liked it. Feel like there was some missed opportunities to make this more than just a tourist trap.

A great museum to learn about the history of piracy in the Bahamas. The displays are very well done and much bigger than I was expecting. I had a great visit here. They are currently limiting the number of people passing through due to social distancing, so expect a small queue outside. Great for families and couples.

We visited the Privates of Nassau Museum with our grandchildren on a recent trip to the Bahamas. The younger boys loved the whole experience. However, when we questioned them about what they learned they could not name anything. Our granddaughter was frightened by the noise and the darkness in a couple of sections.

My husband and I toured this museum yesterday. It was so much fun and full of interesting pirate history that we never knew until visiting this museum! It was all extremely interesting and presented in a really fun way for both kids and adults alike. Would definitely recommend this as a 'must see' while visiting Nassau/New Providence! The museum keeper (sorry, bad with names) was very pleasant and even recommended some local places for us to eat. We tried a couple and both were excellent (see reviews for Malone's and Athena's Cafe).

We had a lot of fun here! We were on a cruise with my 10 & 7 year old nephews. We were heading to the beach but I thought this might be a fun addition to our day. We all had so much fun! It only took about an hour & we were the only ones in the museum at the time so it was very atmospheric & we really got to take our time. The boys love creepy things so they liked the scenes with the pirate battles & sneaking onto the pirate ship.

I have been wanting to go to this museum for years, but each time I have visited Nassau I ran out of time. Finally made it on this vacation and I can honestly say it is something you should definitely put on your "must do" list when in Nassau. The exhibits are amazing and you really feel as if you are back in the 1700's during the golden age of piracy in the Caribbean. It is very kid-friendly too! We really enjoyed our visit.

Walked to the museum during a cruise stop. It is about a 10-15 minute walk and you will pass other small shops and a straw market along the way. Pretty much consists of displays of pirates in a scene of some type and written information about that scene as well as info about pirates. It is easy to walk through and can be completed in 30-45 minutes which gives you plenty of time to do other things in town if on a cruise ship. IMO, the $14 entry was appropriate for what was in the museum.
Thought there would be a some material related to the series "Black Sails" being in Nassau, but still worth a look if you're into pirate history.

Tried to decide what to do when we came into Nassau on a cruise and found this place. Very interesting museum to visit. Interesting enough the museum was slightly based around the documentary on the pirates of Nassau. Really enjoyed the information presented.

While the museum relies on mostly static displays, they are very detailed. It felt like a walking version of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride in Orlando. Plaques and panels describe the history and way of living of the famous Pirates who visited Nassau. Interaction is limited to true/false questions, but I only got about half correct, so I learned much more than I expected. The museum wasn't very busy and the restaurant & bar up front looked inviting. Something unique to do, Glad we visited.

What is the best time of year to visit? are there any special events that would be good to build a 4 or 5 day visit around?

Ahoy Mate, Pirates of Nassau is open annually. The British Colonial Hilton is located across the street from the facility and is the closest. Both Fort Charlotte and Fort Fincastle are intact and can be visited. There is a junkanoo parade and celebration every Christmas and New Year which is very colourful and lively. It is certainly worth visiting during that time.

With a small toddler it took us about 15 minutes. The sidewalks were pretty crowded so that slowed us down too. Not bad at all.
