I chose this documentary from writer/director Valeria Parisi because, after a big film week, I wanted something lighter, but found myself sucked in to Jeremy Irons’ narration. The Prado in Madrid is one of my favourite museums/galleries and the documentary takes a relaxed stroll through its rooms and its collection of more than 8,200 drawings, 7,600 paintings, 4,800 prints, and 1,000 sculptures, of which around 1,300 works are on display at any time. Its collection spans the years from the 12th to the early 20th century. Like other art institutions whose collection outstrips their display space, the Prado lends works to other institutions around the world (around 3,000 at any given time).

The history behind this museum and its priceless treasures is vivid like the paintings that adorn those hallowed spaces. For anyone unable or unwilling to travel, this should provide a small measure of satisfaction.

This film was not as strong as others in the newer format. Not really dull but somehow disjointed. A bit too try hard incorporating the flamenco dancer. I enjoyed some of the stories and academia, but altogether weak.

Personalmente, ver esta película me ha sido especial. Era la primera película documental sobre arte que veía en la gran pantalla, en el cine ideal, un cine que llevó admirando desde pequeño en el que nunca había entrado antes, también porque ha sido la primera vez que veo una película en la gran pantalla en versión original y por que ver una película que se ajuste a todos los contenidos a los cuales tengo gran devoción, es difícil.
