Summary

  • Lindsay Lohan's breakout role in The Parent Trap launched her into stardom, leading to a successful acting career and even a brief music career.
  • Natasha Richardson, who played Elizabeth James, tragically passed away in 2009.
  • Elaine Hendrix, who portrayed the villainous Meredith Blake, has continued to act in numerous films and TV shows, including her recent role as Alexis Carrington in the Dynasty remake.

After more than 25 years, The Parent Trap still holds up today, especially due to its phenomenal cast. A remake of the 1961 film of the same name, The Parent Trap (1998), directed by Nancy Meyers, tells the story of Hallie Parker and Annie James, two identical twins who were separated at birth by their divorced parents, Nick Parker and Elizabeth James. The twins have lived across the pond from one another their whole lives — Hallie in Napa with their father and Annie in London with their mother — and thus, remained unaware of each other's existence until they meet by chance for the first time in summer camp.

Halle and Annie don't get along at first and even deny their blatantly obvious resemblance. However, after discovering they are definitely twin sisters, they decide to switch places and pose as one another in order to spend time with the opposite parent and plot to get their mom and dad back together. The Parent Trap was Lindsay Lohan's movie debut and featured a stellar cast including Dennis Quaid, Natasha Richardson, and many more.

Lindsay Lohan As Hallie Parker/Annie James

Gradually Returned to Acting as of 2023

After a handful of commercials, short film roles, and TV spots, Lindsay Lohan made her feature film debut in The Parent Trap in 1998 at the age of 12. Lohan played both Hallie Parker and Annie James, two identical twins separated at birth by their parents who meet at a summer camp nearly 12 years later and decide to switch places upon their return from camp. Although Lohan had a body double in The Parent Trap for wide shots and interactive scenes, her stellar performance as the polar opposite twins was so convincing, that the former Disney CEO believed Lohan had a twin in real life.

The Parent Trap was Lohan's breakout role that launched her into stardom. Over the course of just 4 years from age 16 to 20, she had lead roles in a ton of films like Get A Clue, Life Size, Freaky Friday, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, Mean Girls, Herbie: Fully Loaded, and Just My Luck. Lohan even had a brief music career, during which she released two albums.

She took a step back from the spotlight for a number of years before gradually returning to acting in 2018. Her most recent role was in the Netflix Christmas movie, Falling for Christmas. Lohan also reunited with the Mean Girls cast recently for a Walmart Black Friday commercial.

Dennis Quaid had been a working actor for more than 20 years when he played the role of Nick Parker, a divorced single father and vineyard owner, in The Parent Trap.
