What is the best Tarzan movie?

Question

The only Tarzan movie I’ve seen is the Disney version from 1999. I do know there are numerous adaptations of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ most famous creation dating back to the 1910s. However, unlike Robin Hood where I’m familiar with a lot of the movies, I don’t find myself in the same boat here. I didn’t even see “The Legend of Tarzan” with Alexander Skarsgård that came out 4 years ago. So with that said, what is the best Tarzan movie?

George of the Jungle. No contest.

You can't beat Brendan Fraser in his prime.

Greystroke was the closest to the source material

Disney Tarzan had that great song and a feel good ending.

Legend of Tarzan is worth it just to drool at Alexander Skarsgard's body, he must have worked really hard to put that work of art onto film. Also Margot Robbie is beautiful so this is the mega eye candy version of Tarzan.

Greystroke was the closest to the source material.

I'd disagree with that. Academy Award winner director Hugh Hudson gave us a realistic version of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ novel which means not at all faithful to the source material. Without having dialogue between Tarzan and his fellow apes you don't have the book, and then they made Jane his British cousin for some bizarre reason. Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan Lord of the Apes is a gorgeous looking period piece but it's not the fun adventure tale that Burroughs wrote.

I gotta go with Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan..might be purely nostalgia based but it’s a worth a watch

I've watched pretty much every Tarzan movie and the one I feel captured the spirit of the books best is Tarzan's Greatest Adventure which also has the bonus of starring such notable actors as Anthony Quale and Sean Connery.

Yeah Mike Henry was the Tarzan version of James Bond. The actual scene could have used more cowbell tho.

The one with rocco

My favourites have always been the ones with Gordon Scott playing Tarzan. Made in the early sixties. You'll spot some early roles by big name stars like Sean Connery as a heavy. Tarzan the Magnificent, Tarzan's Greatest Adventure come to mind immediately.

When I was a kid Tarzan Finds a Son was fun

None!

Best in what way? By what metric?

Well you can decide. Maybe your favorite is dictated how close it follows the original novel. Maybe you only go by entertainment value. It’s all up to you.

Everyone is going to have a different favorite. Your question has no value. If you just want a list of some Tarzan movies that some people have liked, there's a list of them on wikipedia.
