Product Description

The Wild West meets the soulful sound of Italy. Fearless New York gangsters meet cowboys from the dusty prairie. Godfather meets Taxi Driver. And the magic of cinema meets the rich sound of a first-class symphony orchestra. This exclusive live concert production presents a unique selection of movie classics - from Sergio Leone’s iconic Spaghetti Westerns to modern mafia masterpieces by Francis Ford Coppola and the cult movies of Tarantino. The Danish National Symphony Orchestra is conducted by Sarah Hicks and joined by a fistful of strong guest artists for this premiere performance of the authentic soundtracks by composer legends Ennio Morricone, Nino Rota, Sonny Bono and Bernard Herrmann.

Comparing this to recorded concerts I've seen in the past from the USA, I have to say it is far better. The cameras were covering the Danish musicians and choral groups enabling the viewer to see the various instruments and individuals involved. The conductor deserves special comment for her superb performance. I found watching her conducting this to be very entertaining. Unlike many male conductors who use the baton to guide the orchestra, Sarah Hicks shows by her baton, hand, and body how the orchestra is playing. She becomes involved with the music as the concert progressed and her facial expressions showed her pleasure with the musicians and singers. Between the number of musicians, the choir groups and individuals singing all around the orchestra, she must have been controlling the efforts of over a hundred individuals. Further, she showed recognition of the contributions made by all the participants in this concert. She did a great job as did all the Danish musicians and singers.

The music is great with songs from popular movies. It is very interesting to see the different instruments used in these popular soundtrack songs from movies such as The Good The Bad and The Ugly, The Godfather and many others. Also the excellent whistlers and chorus help out.

I don't know what else to say except that if you are a music lover, then buy this because it's wonderful.

The music is glorious, the performance impeccable, and the film job amazing. Even if you don't like classical music or opera singers, or are just not familiar with orchestras, this film would bridge the gap. And if you are then you don't have to worry either. Despite being contemporary film music and not the music of the great masters, it will bridge that gap as well. This performance never sounds cheesy.

Take it from me, I am a lover of Brahms, and I love this DVD. This is a five-star show which will leave you clapping along with the audience at the end.

We discovered, quite by chance, that our 7-month-old grandson loves the theme to “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.” So we searched on YouTube for the theme, and the Danish National Symphony rendition was the first video to pop up. Grandson was happy; we were mesmerized. We watched a couple more of their videos, then checked to see if any other videos of the theme were worth watching. We kept coming back to the Danish National Symphony version. I decided to buy the whole DVD, and we love it! I’m letting our grandson keep this copy, and I’m buying another for his grandparents. Plus I’m going to look into more of their performances. We’re really enjoying their performances.

5.0 out of 5 stars ¡Impresionante!

5.0 out of 5 stars Western-Musik at his Best !
