The Maze Runner is set to make a return to the big screen.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Disney corner of 20th Century Studios is reviving the franchise.
The sci-fi action adventure originally ran as a trilogy between 2014 and 2018.
Jack Paglen, who wrote the script for the Johnny Depp-led sci-fi Transcendence, is in talks to pen the project.
The trilogy’s original producers Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Lee Stollman, Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen will return.

Maze Runner is based on the books by author James Dashner.
The literature and its subsequent movie adaptation follows a collective of teens who arrive in a boxed-in setting called the Glade.
There, their memories are erased.
Outside of the walled encampment is a maze full of lethal mechanical creatures as well as doors that close nightly at sundown.
A newcomer discovers how to ensure the group’s survival and attempts to guide everyone out.
The movies and books ‘opened up the setting, revealing a dystopian world with evil government organizations and foul corporations,’ per THR.
The film adaptations magnified the plot, adding more action to the story.

Insiders told The Hollywood Reporter that the new installment will not repeat the prior storyline.
It was also reported that the upcoming flick is not a ‘direct sequel’ to the previous trilogy.
‘The hope is to make a sort of continuation of the story yet also return to the elements that made the first movie connect with its audience,’ the outlet noted.
The original movie earned $348 million worldwide after costing $35 million to create.
