      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

The End's cynical take on life and death may not be as deep as it thinks itself to be, but sharp performances and a few genuinely surprising insights almost make up for it.

Graeme Blundell The Australian ...a compelling drama which also happened to be a deft, acerbic comedy at the same time... Dec 28, 2021 Full Review Matthew Gilbert Boston Globe The story lines are dense -- too dense, at times -- with issues of death, but the comedic moments are a great relief and the acknowledgments of all the absurdities of life and suffering are heartening. Jul 28, 2021 Full Review Daniel D'Addario Variety When Walter and O'Connor are allowed to really go for it, though, there's a purifying effect: The End, too briefly but enough to recommend the series, comes to rich and vivid life. Jul 19, 2021 Full Review Anne Brodie What She Said The End is a serious stab at death and all it means, and it takes some steel to watch, especially during a pandemic. Jul 30, 2021 Full Review Joel Keller Decider This well-written and well-acted show promises to be a satisfying watch to anyone ready for its bleakness. Jul 27, 2021 Full Review Matt Roush TV Insider What was mostly a downer shifts gears into an enjoyably twisty melodra-medy, and despite a cornily climactic scene of cleansing naked in the sea, these purveyors of mortality have their hands dirty enough at the end that we're left curious. Audience Member The cast is fantastic, the script writing is spot-on. I just hope for a season two. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member The show has received many bad reviews. However, I like it very much. looking forward to seeing it again. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Thoroughly enjoyed the refreshing and honest look of old age and all its issues. But the audience is too fast. Who are they trying to appeal to? Too much going on. Why have a cattle dog kill a possum? Bloody and senseless, no need for it, why have city people got a damn cattle dog anyway, they are never home. And why appeal to the elderly and then scare poor old grandma off with the oral sex and the anal sex. Is there really the need to have such explicit scenes? This series is a bit over the top but I will still keep watching past the four episodes... with the fast forward button ready. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Too much going on - like they are trying too hard to fit every scenario they could think of included & be so ‘out there'. Not a fan yet after 4 episodes - will give it a few more & see what happens. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member So refreshing to find a well written, well acted, well directed, well filmed series which beautifully entertains without shying away from a plethora of 'delicate' subjects. It seems that nothing is taboo here! Wonderful that the main characters are played by females too. There is something for everyone to learn here but there is no didactic element; all the themes which reflect contemporary issues knit themselves easily into the storyline. One of the themes is euthanasia and I find it so incredibly brave to addresss such a controversial topic with such candour and raw truth. The series could have been pretty dark, but there is much humour here - just the right amount to counteract the challenging and sometimes uncomfortable subject matter. Brilliant stuff. Five stars in every way. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Beautiful and confronting. Harriet Walter is BAFTA worthy.
