ScarletSerena K I love found footage movies and this is one of the better ones I've seen. I really enjoyed it, it genuinely creeped me out and I liked all of the stories. I think the twists were really great. I think the acting was very good for a found footage film, no one was over acting as if they were making a movie. It's like they just happened to be being filmed and were slowly trying to get comfortable with it. The main premise of the story is very creative and I'd definitely love to see a sequel or a spin off of the main story or one of the other stories! If you like found footage films, I'd say this one is a must watch! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/16/24 Full Review Audience Member It's an ok movie. It's like it was in bits in pieces. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Andy J A few good bits but overall disjointed and uninspiring. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/24/21 Full Review Luke S SOME good points, but mainly weak stories and bad acting. 🀷🏌‍♀ Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/10/21 Full Review Audience Member The opening minutes are maybe the most boring opening minutes ever put on film. Done in the ‘lost footage' format, this isn't what the brief description I read makes it out to be. Nothing connecting it all together, just kinda dumb... not sure how it was rated as high as it was. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member A cheesy, un-evenly acted bit of found-footage serial slop, featuring the occasional rubber-suited monster equivalent, and of varying degrees of coherency. The story of the couple in the seemingly haunted house has an unusual twist, but the twist isn't woven into the preceding events, turning would could have been an interesting concept into a disappointing tack-on. Digitally distortions are a trope throughout the stories, and their effect is unintentionally goofy. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Michelle Swope HorrorNews.net This movie isn't perfect, but I do think it's intelligent, creative, independent horror done well on a small budget. Rated: 4/5 Nov 6, 2019 Full Review C.H. Newell Father Son Holy Gore The Dark Tapes, warts and all, is one of the better found footage movies as of late, running the gamut of horror, thriller, and science fiction with relative ease. Rated: 3.5/5 May 6, 2019 Full Review Aaron Peterson The Hollywood Outsider Found-footage, by most accounts, is a novelty that has run its course, but The Dark Tapes offers a worthy return to found-footage films. Rated: 6.5/10 Oct 10, 2018 Full Review Jonathan Edwards Starburst Overall, The Dark Tapes is a colossal waste of time. Rated: 2/10 Jul 12, 2017 Full Review Bradley Gibson Film Threat The Dark Tapes owes something to Cloverfield in style but the script here is tighter and more sinister. This is effective, mysterious, and vibey millennial horror. Rated: 8/10 May 5, 2017 Full Review Matthew Pejkovic Matt's Movie Reviews McQuown is to be commended for willing to do something different with horror tropes that have become stale through constant repetition.
