In all seriousness, it's like every other movie where white people try and find beauty in slavery so that they don't have to feel bad about it.
This may possibly have been the most offensive movie we’ve watched for the podcast. Not for its vulgar language or content, but for what it thinks of its audience.
You expect me to watch a movie abt a yt lady lawyer and her new Black male co-worker whom, thru an old diary she finds in her plantation house, finds out that her family used to own his family, causes her to fall in love with him and NOT think this is some racism-erasure proto-fantasy???

Watched this because of that viral Twitter thread. Also it’s filmed and set in my home state so yeah…
To briefly summarize, it’s a slavery-apologist (and not the people who should be apologizing) romance drama split between modern day and the 1860s as the ancestor of a plantation owner falls in love with the ancestor of the slave her family owned…
Poorly acted, mostly shot out of focus, and topped with a piss poor message that seems to challenge those still living with the repercussions of the sins of the past rather than those still benefiting off of those sins.
Low hanging fruit to target? Sure. But goddamn nonetheless.
If I ever feel the need to see another movie where someone inherits an estate in the American South, I'll definitely check out Fletch Lives.
