      The Bourne Legacy

      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

It isn't quite as compelling as the earlier trilogy, but The Bourne Legacy proves the franchise has stories left to tell -- and benefits from Jeremy Renner's magnetic work in the starring role.

diana Jeremy and Rachel were phenomenal in this movie...no arrogant and over the top sentimentality nor unnecessay lengthy dialogue. Jeremy did the bulk of his stunts, and I watch it over and over again to see him walk a roof at an angle and then slide down the side of a building from the roof to save Rachel's character...clever and beautiful. Plus, in the end she saves him after he had gotten shot. The two had a sweet chemistry... nothing lewd or over the top. The other Bourne movies were very good, of course, but Legacy is very very special. It teaches survival and staying calm and focus when all hell breaks loose around you and respect for others. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/14/23 Full Review matthias s "The Bourne Legacy" takes us on a thrilling rollercoaster ride that begins with a bang but unfortunately loses some of its steam towards the end. Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz deliver strong performances, injecting fresh energy into the franchise. Renner steps into the shoes of a new agent, Aaron Cross, and his portrayal is both charismatic and action-packed. Weisz shines as the scientist caught up in the chaos, adding depth to her character. The film's first half is a pulse-pounding spectacle, filled with intense action sequences and intriguing plot developments that keep you hooked. However, as the story progresses, it meanders and becomes a bit convoluted, leaving some loose ends untied. While Renner does an admirable job, it's hard not to miss the magnetic presence of Matt Damon as Jason Bourne. In the end, "The Bourne Legacy" is a decent addition to the franchise, offering moments of excitement and suspense, but it falls short of the high standards set by its predecessors. It's worth a watch for fans of the series, but don't expect it to reach the same heights as the earlier Bourne films. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/15/23 Full Review Grant R utterly pointless. villains sucked. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/06/23 Full Review Bruce L Had to give this a 5 Star rating to balance the absurd negative reviews of this movie. It's far more memorable than the 3rd and 4th installments of the films featuring Matt Damon as Jason Bourne. Rachel Weisz and Jeremy Ritter give excellent performances and Edward Norton continues the tradition of abhorrent and ruthless government operatives. If you liked the first 2 Jason Bourne movies you will not be disappointed! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/17/23 Full Review Red T The editing isn't that good and is the biggest issue here. At times this wants to focus on Jason Bourne, than at times the fallout from Threadstone, the other agents who die from the virus, Aaron in the woods, than at times Aarons backstory, than at times which is the main focus of the second hald the virus and Aaron & Marta pursuing it and it never works cohesively at all. While I can follow the main story of Aaron well enough especially the second half when it gets more focused you have to cut through a lot of extra unneeded stuff to get there. Including this movie being more concerned with trying to remind you its a Bourne movie rather than trying to be its own thing. The whole side story of the fallut from Bourne and any scene about Bourne is distracting and unneeded. Including the scenesfrom Ultimatum when Bourne was in the NYC HQ was unneeded and confusing. The second issue is the acting is just ok overall. The main issues are I'm never sure of the characters motivations because were barely given any backstory on Aaron except hes basically a Bourne clone which begs the question why not just make it about Bourne than, Norton is I guess the bad guy kind of or maybe not, it's never made clear except hes there to clean up the mess from the fallout but whether its for good or bad reasons is never made clear and he never interacts with Aaron except in a confusing flashback. Than Weisz is so annoying in this and her performance can have some weird line deliveries where shes just shouting or trying to be scared/paniky and it never feels natural. She also has no chemsitry with Renner because half the time shes just rambling plot expose and their relationship backstory is somewhat not clear. All the other agents in the first half feel completely unneeded and don't contribute anything and are just throwaway characters. On their own the performances are good but in the context of everything else they get weighed down to much. The cineamtogrpahy is decent with some well framed shots, good action which is the highlight, and some memorable locations. But the issue is a lot of scenes with Marta and Aaron are very lifeless and dull, sometimes this feels like it is trying to copy Greengrass and his style without understanding why, and trying to look like the other Bourne movies. Also a couple farfetched scenes to add in there as well. The music is decent and has the same problem where it really sounds way too simliar to the other movies and feels almost like an exact copy of a best hits from the others. This all leads to a messy but acceptable pacing. Again this really gets bogged down in the middle with Weisz and Renner talking at anytime becuse of the way its shot so lifelessly and the fact she isn't likeable really and more annyoing than anything on top of a lack of chemistry. The final chase though does make a good enough ending but feels like its there because Greengrass had a chase like it at the end of his more than anything else. This needed to try and be its own thing rather than try and copy and remind viewers about the other Bourne movies. If they wanted to remind people about the other films this should've been made with Bourne in this and working with Aaron to uncover the truth in a Last Crusade type of way. There really isn't a reason to watch this unless your a die hard Renner fan. Most should skip this and stick to the orignal trilogy. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/11/23 Full Review Kevin S I like all the Borne movies but I like this one best of all. No Matt Damon isn't in it but he was replaced with an equally capable and believable actor in Jeremy Renner. This movie is a little more complicated and expands the Bourne Universe into other programs and brings in the science and the scientists that are required to develop and maintain a DARPA program. It also shows the management agencies that run these programs. Ad that to the excellent car chances and action scenes you expect from the Bourne movies and you have an excellent movie that was unfairly underrated. Enough said. Watch Bourne 1,2,& 3 first then get ready to see a bigger picture in #4. Enjoy! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/06/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
