Yeah okay, I know Superman III is one of my favourite films ever but like, I'm just struck how much of an accurate comic book movie it is. It's full of vivid colours (that's why it's so good when evil Superman ends up in a slightly darker suit, the kind of suit that would just be fucking standard now) and grandiose sets (hi, welcome to my underground cave with a sentient super computer).

In a world where every superhero movie has to be a fight for the fate of the universe, with epic stakes and incredible special effects, there is something to be said for one as small and intentionally goofy as this one. Big chunks of this are a Tati-esque comedy that Superman occasionally passes through, like an adaptation of a particularly quirky issue of The World of Metropolis. Other parts are a quiet but pointed critique of capitalism — a system Superman has frequently battled since his earliest adventures.
It’s no mystery why people hate it; just when this thing starts to find a vibe that works it falls completely apart. Still, I find it hard to completely dismiss something where Superman goes bad and as his first act of unbridled evil straightens the Leaning Tower of Pisa, seemingly to spite a humble souvenir salesman. What a super-jerk!
How dare anyone talk shit about Superman 4 after this!! Superman without Lois Lane and Lex Luthor is lame. Richard Pryor is before my time so I dont understand his appeal. He isnt funny at all. None of his jokes landed, and me and viking only laughed at the obscurity.
The first half is like a bizarre 3 stooges skit. It's just mimes and pie to the face gags lol. Then it consists of Richard Pryor bumbling and yelling, an angry rich business man, Clark going to his high school reunion, turning evil and then fighting a computer.

Marvel has commercially perfected the funny superhero model by making quippy, sitcommy blockbusters that don't feel enough like comedies to alienate any of those finicky teenage boys. So it was like something akin to epiphany to watch this, which is not content to be merely funny but is actually an unabashed COMEDY, with sturdy slapstick construction and witty running gags, not even to mention Richard Pryor rambling around the frame and serving as essentially the secondary protagonist even as he throws his lot in with the bad guys. Tragically undervalued, Reeve is so good you want to cry and everybody else (even the kid!) holds their own.

In all honesty, buddy Benjamin Green who had me so morbidly curious on checking this out warned me like for hours, so everything that came on my way watching this movie, every sense of dread and frowning was my fault. If anything, I guess I can now say I watched this movie. So yay for me?
As many have pointed out the script is just lame and stupid, even for what we've been getting from the previous two installments which weren't precisely my fave. Not a fan of whatever campiness and goofy Lex, etc. and this one amped up…

I love Richard Pryor and his mutant like computer programming skills, as it was the early 80s, no one understood computers.
