On This is Us, Mandy Moore plays one half of TV's favorite couple—Rebecca and Jack Pearson (Milo Ventimiglia). But the actress, nominated for her first Emmy on September 22, is also enjoying a loving relationship offscreen. In November 2018, Moore married musician Taylor Goldsmith in a backyard Los Angeles ceremony. Below, some more facts about Goldsmith—and how he and Moore's creative worlds collide.
He's the lead singer of indie band The Dawes
You may recognize Goldsmith from the indie rock band, The Dawes. He fronts the group, which has released six albums in the last decade. Goldsmith can even count Moore's This is Us co-star Chris Sullivan as a fan. During a guest appearance on Busy Tonight, the actor confessed, "I've fallen in love with Mandy Moore's husband. We're having a real bromance...He and I bonded over music, he's the lead singer of a band called Dawes. As soon as we met I bought all of their records. He's producing my next record."
Moore and Goldsmith met through Instagram
Like many modern romances, Moore and Goldsmith's began via Instagram. In May 2015, Moore outed herself as a Dawes fan on social media, sharing a picture of their album with the caption, "Real excited about this one. Have a feeling it's going to be the soundtrack of my summer. #Dawes #rightontime." The Emmy nominee later told People, "Somehow, Taylor saw it and sent a note to me. We started emailing back and forth, then we went on a date and the rest is history. Thanks, Instagram, for helping me meet my fiancé!"
He and Moore are working on new music together
Moore and Goldsmith will soon be making sweet music together—literally. In June, both singers began sharing snaps of the couple in the recording studio. On September 17, she released the debut single off of her first album since 2009, which she's worked on with her husband. Previously, Moore has been open about how her seven-year marriage to musician Ryan Adams stunted her ability to make music. This time, Moore told People that the experience of collaborating with Goldsmith as her partner was quite special:
I was singing in the booth last night. I looked over, and he had his eyes closed, playing the guitar. I thought there’s nothing cooler than being able to collaborate in this sort of setting with somebody you love, trust and respect, in the way that I respect him. He’s the most talented; having him grace any music that I’m a part of is always a treat.
Goldsmith has written a song for This Is Us
The couple regularly supports each other's careers and have even worked together before. Goldsmith co-wrote the song "Invisible Ink," an original song Moore's character Rebecca sings on season 3 of This Is Us. In addition to penning a tune for the hit series, the pair performed the song together during an Emmy FYC event in Hollywood.
Similarly, Moore has played a role in Goldsmith's musical career (other than undoubtedly inspiring a few love songs). In 2017, the actress appeared in the music video for the Dawes song, "Rolling With The Punches."
This couple is stronger than ever and happy to show it
Since marrying in 2018, this couple seems to be totally in love. On Instagram, they've shared experiences, including traveling the world, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, and renovating a home in Pasadena, California, together. Moore told Glamour in October 2018, "I was still dealing with the trauma of my divorce when we started dating. Taylor was steadfast in his support—that was a huge sign for me. He makes me melt. I can imagine no better partner." She added that her sights are set on the future. "He's going to be the most tremendous father. I view the past as a stepping-stone to get me where I am today. I would gladly weather all of that a million times over if it brought me to Taylor again."
