NYC doesn't factor into Tarzan's New York Adventure nearly as much as I hoped, but this final outing for Johnny Weissmuller and Maureen O'Sullivan together (before Brenda Joyce took over as Jane) still has some entertaining scenes, highlighting a daring dive from the Brooklyn Bridge - well, the actual diving shot used a tank at the MGM studio in California, but there's plenty of genuine bridge/skyline footage too - and dropping some great food for thought as Tarzan fights for custody of Boy (Johnny Sheffield), who was kidnapped and brought to the US as part of a circus act. Do absorb these bon mots:
- "In jungle, men only kill bad animals. In civilization, men kill good men."

It’s Jungle Code vs. Civilized Law as Tarzan goes under the big top in the big city in the final MGM entry of the Johnny Weissmüller & Maureen O'Sullivan ape-man/sophisticated woman series. It’s a fitting send off for O’Sullivan, who would leave the MGM backlot behind for half a decade to raise her seven (!) children, while Weissmüller would return to the role just a year later, but under different management (RKO and Sol Lesser). Great Cheetah Hijinks! A couple of circus trappers have flown off with Boy, and now it’s up to Jane and Tarzan to to track him down in the Big Apple.
I’m tempted to say that Tarzan’s finally jumped the shark, but perhaps this fish out of water story is just goofy enough that that even Crocodile Dundee could appreciate it.
Notably, this was Maureen O’Sullivan’s sixth and final portrayal of Jane. However, a decade later she was reunited with even more over-the-top Chimp ‘hilarity’ with the cinematic masterpiece, Bonzo Goes to College
BONUS POINTS for the awe-inspiring vision of a perfectly good stunt dummy attempting a spectacular jump from atop the Brooklyn Bridge.

Tarzan and Jane travel all the way to New York City, but are still unable to get tickets to see Hamilton.
This movie leaves me feeling a little melancholy because it's the end of an era, Maureen O'Sullivan's last appearance as Jane. I will continue watching the series but wondering how the quality will be now without her.

Fassungstitel: Tarzans Abenteuer in New York.Wie der Titel schon sagt verschlägt es den Lendenschurzträger im sechsten Film mit Johnny Weissmüller in der Hauptrolle und Maureen O'Sullivan zum letzten Mal als Jane in die Großstadt. Der Grund dafür ist, dass Boy von ein paar Männern mitgenommen wurde, um mit seinem Talent im Zirkus den großen Reibach zu machen.
Anfangs sieht man die bekannten Dschungelbilder mit Gefahren durch einen Löwen und Wilde, eine Tiere foppende Cheetah, Wasserplanschereien und den Baumhaushalt. Doch mit dem Wechsel der Schauplätze ins Urbane kommt frischer Wind in die Reihe.
Der Film ist geprägt von einer deutlich lockereren Stimmung, denn Tarzan muss die Gegebenheiten in der Zivilisation erst lernen und sich… -
All kinds of goofy with Tarzan battling for custody in a court of law when he only knows jungle law. Not a masterpiece, but so good-heartedly cheesy that it's a fun time in the city with our jungle hero.

OmdUTarzan schaltet im US-Taxi das Radio um und es erklingt eine Arie (oder soll sowas ähnliche sein).

>> und auf diesem Naivem Niveau ist der ganze Fish-Out-Of-Water-Abenteuer-FilmNun sind wir ganz und gar auf Kinderfilm-Niveau angekommen (und ja, der lief damals auch im Ferienprogramm, als ich ihn das letzte Mal sah). Er lebt quasi von den Gags, wie Tarzan auf moderne Dinge falsch reagiert oder Cheetah ihre Späße treibt.
Boy ist nach 20 Minuten entführt und dann beginnt die lange Suche voll mit erwartbaren und fast belanglosen Entwicklungen und endlosen Cheetah-Nummern. Leider wird auch der Boy-Erzählstrang recht zäh - vor allem durch den konstruiert wirkenden, sentimentalen Gerichtsprozess.Einziges Highlight ist die Action-Sequenz mit den Akrobatik-Einlagen von Tarzan und Boy.
Aber die reißen den Film auch nicht mehr. Die Elefanten-Nummer ist aber ganz gut. -

Der letzte von der Metro Goldwyn Mayer, das Studio mit dem Brüllelöwen im Logo, produzierte Tarzan-Film ist zwar eine willkommene Abwechslung zu den drei vorangegangenen Abenteuern, aber lässt eigentlich auch in allen Belangen schwer zu wünschen übrig.
Boy wird, mit dem Glauben das Tarzan und Jane bei einem Buschfeuer ums Leben gekommen sind, von einem Großwildjäger nach New York City entführt, um wohl in dessen Zirkus aufzutreten.
TARZANS ABENTEUER IN NEW YORK ist eine semi-spannende Angelegenheit dessen Fokus ganz eindeutig auf kindgerechter Komödie liegt, die von dem für die Zivilisation natürlich ungehobelt agierenden Tarzan und ganz besonders den Streichen der mitgereisten Cheetah ausgeht. Wieviel Laufzeit dem Schimpansen in diesen knapp siebzig Minuten gewährt wird, ist schon… -

Allein am Titel lässt sich schon ableiten, dass der ganze Film eine einzige Fish-out-of-Water-Chose ist. Mal mehr, mal weniger witzig, mal mehr, mal weniger logisch, unterhaltsam aber auf jeden Fall.
