Biography

She was the daughter of Walter Fitz-Edward de Salisbury, Lord of Salisbury, and Sibyl de Chaworth his wife.^[1]

She was the wife of John Fitz-Gilbert, The Marshal of England.^[1]

She was the mother of William Marshal, 1st Earl of Pembroke; John Fitzgilbert II Marshall; Maud FitzJohn Marshall; Anselm FitzJohn Marshall; Henry FitzGilbert Marshall, Exeter and Richard FitzGilbert Mareschall.

She was the sister of Hawise de Salisbury; Walter Salisbury, Brade; Patrick de Salisbury, 1st Earl of Salisbury and Mathilde d'Evereaux.

She is buried in the Priory of Bradenstoke, Wiltshire, England.

Children

They had six children: John, William, Anselm, Henry, Maud, and a Daughter Marshal whose given name is unknown. ^[2] Their son William Marshal became Regent of England. ^[2]

The sixth child, Daughter Marshal, is referenced on page 39 Royal Ancestry, Vol IV,^[2] and is also discussed by Douglas Richardson at the Gen-Medieval Discussion Group at RootsWeb. (This daughter was not clearly identified until after 1996, or published popularly until 2013, which is why older genealogies can be confusing on this issue -- they had her existence as the wife of William le Gras, but confused her parentage.) Richardson uncovered three primary sources in which she is clearly identified as the sister of William the Marshal, also the wife of William le Gras and also the mother-in-law of Roger de Somery.
