SUSAN FLEMING (19 de febrero de 1908 – 22 de diciembre de 2002) fue una actriz estadounidense y esposa del famoso actor cómico Harpo Marx. Fue conocida como la “Chica con las piernas del millón de dólares” por su papel en la película Million Dollar Legs (1932) de WC Fields. Su gran oportunidad en el escenario, que la llevó a su breve carrera en Hollywood, fue como chica Ziegfeld, actuando en Ziegfeld Follies.

Fleming was a New Yorker and went to school in Forest Hills, Queens. After starring in Broadway productions of Ziegfeld Follies, she began appearing in movies. One of her first film roles was a starring role in Range Feud as Judy Walton, John Wayne’s love interest. Fleming combined her dance and film interests in the 1932 film Million Dollar Legs, in which she played the daughter of the WC Fields character. As part of a publicity stunt for the film, his legs were insured for the million dollar bill of the same name.
Personal life
At a dinner held at Samuel Goldwyn’s home, she was sitting next to Harpo Marx and found him fascinating. Despite his quiet personality in the movies, she saw Marx as “a warm, funny, and caring man to talk to.” She pursued him relentlessly, they dated for four years and proposed to him three times before he finally agreed. Fleming ended his Hollywood career when he married on September 28, 1936.
Death
Fleming survived Marx for nearly forty years during which time she was a painter and social activist in the Palm Springs area. He died at age 94 on December 22, 2002 of a heart attack at the Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage. He was survived by his daughter and three adopted children, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
