- Nice to have both albums in one release. My copy sounds great. All vinyl are flat, color is nice and only a few light pops in between songs. Sounds good to me.
- The concept of this package - a miniaturised CD version of the deluxe vinyl hard bound book set (housing the clear vinyl records as opposed to the gold ones) - is all very well but it appears that as a result of this, many copies are appallingly finished. The pockets housing the 3 CDs are poorly glued so the bottoms are loose - resulting in the CDs being badly scuffed and (in my case) permanently scarred with residue of the glues used having transferred onto the edges of the CD playing surfaces. THAT is not good. Furthermore the 'leaves' of this book (i.e. the pockets holding the CDs) are badly glued onto the spine so they became easily detached and thus fell off in no time. Due to the type of card stock used - super glossy - it is an absolute bastard to glue or affix these pockets back into position as they always come loose again no matter how you glue them in.
The only way to ensure they do not come loose is to use some sticky tape or clear sealing film (the sort you use to back text books) and apply a strip of this in the v-join between the pages and also the back (last) leaf...thus this guarantees they will no longer come loose.
All in all, a very disappointing execution of the packaging. - Pretty happy with this, like a lot of people there was just a tad too much background noise in the more quiet parts (crackle) took two cleans on my record cleaner to get rid of almost all noise. Now quiet and very good sonics...so buy with confidence but be ready to clean the vinyl thoroughly
- Sonically, I either lucked out or people had too high expectations for how these albums should sound on vinyl. I’m not a fan of colored vinyl, but the discs are flat, no noise, and sound fantastic.
My only complaint is the packaging - shoving 3 LPs in a single sleeve is BS - Nice presentation, two classic albums and the live disc is some sweet icing. Sound quality generally good, but the pressing itself is pretty crackly.
- Vinyl sounds great, people who complain about noise are high maintenance consumer nerds and 'take back' something all the time. No pleasing them. I do miss the original artwork for surfer not pilgrim.
- Noisy vinyl, but obscured by a decent signal level and of course by some of the best music ever made - I'll take it !
- Edited 3 years agoPretty good package. Lots of music. Pretty noisy records, though. Surfer Rosa is less noisy on my copy.
- Amazing package! Rosa and Pilgrim both are amazing pressings, can’t say too much on the radio show because the 1. It’s a radio show and just is bound to not sound as good 2. I haven’t compared it to anything, but it doesn’t sound bad and I definitely think it’s worth having
- Edited one year agoYes, well - as already pointed out by others:
1. The book (and box) in itself in its brown parts is OK, that's what I'd expect from a "Limited Box".
2. The records don't really fit within the ugly white hairy lettered middle pages in the book. Separate hard paper Brown Design lose inners would be a better choice.
3. What's with the separate lyrics pamphlet? Why? It could be in bigger letters within the book - makes no sense and looks cheap.
4. Label design is meager. Why not stick with the original labels if you can't come up with something appealing?
I guess there was at least three different people who designed different parts of this release and they never bothered to talk to each other during the process, and there was definitely not any design/functionality control either.
Short: You take up the box, the book slides out and you're thinking "Great!!" then it's all "???! Why?" from there..
