Suranne Jones has been commended for her "powerful" performance in BAFTA-winning director Dominic Savage's I Am anthology series, I Am Victoria.
The series opened with the Vigil star's stand alone episode, in which she played Victoria, who seemingly has the perfect life with two daughters, a lovely home and a loving husband. It's soon apparent that Victoria's mental health is in serious decline, and she is being suffocated by everyday pressures and the weighty expectations of those around her.
Though she needs help, she is unable to seek it.
The episode was influenced by Suranne's own experience of a breakdown, and it resonated with viewers with its honest and realistic depiction of a woman suffering from anxiety and depression. Suranne was also praised for raising awareness to a subject still steeped in stigma.
The series also features episodes from The Crown's Lesley Manville and Small Axe's Letitia Wright, with each actress having worked closely to collaborate with filmmaker Savage, taking on issues that resonate with them personally.
A trailer has been released ahead of the show's launch on on August 5, which features Jones, Manville and Wright playing their respective roles as Victoria, Maria and Danielle.
The drama will explore themes including relationships, mental health, and empowerment, and each story features moments that are emotionally raw, thought-provoking, and deeply personal.
